Haitian Presidential Election, 1987
General elections were held in Haiti on 29 November 1987, with a second round planned for 29 December. Voters were to elect the President, 77 deputies and 27 senators. However, the elections were suspended due to a massacre of voters. Carter Center
The Carter Center is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. He and his wife Rosalynn Carter partnered with Emory University just after his defeat in the 1980 United States presidential election. The Constitution of Haiti provides for the election of the President, Parliament, and members of local governing bodies. The current acting president is Ariel Henry, who succeeded acting president Claude Joseph, who in turn assumed office following the assassination of Jovenel Moïse in 2021. 2010-2011 elections The 2010 presidential election took place on 28 November 2010, with a run-off election taking place on 20 March 2011. No candidate received a majority of the vote cast in the first-round election. A second round was scheduled for 20 March 2011 with the two highest vote-getters, Mirlande Manigat and Jude Célestin. Protests claiming fraudulent voting resulted in the electoral commission removing Célestin from the race. Marc Bazin
Marc Louis Bazin (March 6, 1932 – June 16, 2010) was a World Bank official, former United Nations functionary and Haitian Minister of Finance and Economy under the dictatorship of Jean-Claude Duvalier. He was prime minister of Haiti appointed on June 4, 1992 by the military government that had seized power on September 30, 1991. Life Born in Saint-Marc, his father, Louis Bazin was a member of the elite in Artibonite. He studied law and economics at the Solvay Institute in Brussels and later worked as an economist for the World Bank from 1972 to 1976. Bazin served as Minister of Finance and Economy for six months in 1982. He was considered to be the favorite Haitian presidential candidate of the George H. W. Bush administration and the bourgeois population of Haiti. Lt. Col. Jean-Claude Paul (1938/1939 - 7 November 1988) was a Haitian military officer alleged to have been involved in the illegal drug trade in Haiti. He was indicted by a Miami court on 10 March 1988 for allegedly trafficking cocaine.
