Hail To The Chief (TV Series)
''Hail to the Chief'' is an American sitcom that aired on ABC from April 9 to May 21, 1985. It centred around the President of the United States, portrayed by Patty Duke. The series was created by Susan Harris, and was produced by Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions. It featured one of the few recurring gay characters in a 1980s television series (Randy, the Secret Service Agent portrayed by Joel Brooks). Synopsis ''Hail to the Chief'' is similar in style to the TV sitcom, ''Soap'' (from the same producers as this series), in that it was a comedy with open-ended storylines that parodied a soap opera. Patty Duke had the starring role as the President, Julia Mansfield. The show focused on President Mansfield's attempt at balancing her political career with raising her family. Susan Harris
Susan Harris (née Spivak; born October 28, 1940) is an American television writer and producer, creator of Emmy Award-winning sitcoms ''Soap'' (1977–1981) and ''The Golden Girls'' (1985–1992). Between 1975 and 1998, Harris was one of the most prolific television writers, creating 13 comedy series. In 2011, she was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. Life and career The first script Harris sold was ''Then Came Bronson''. She then wrote for ''Love, American Style'', ''All in the Family'', ''The Partridge Family'' and the TV adaptation of Neil Simon's ''Barefoot in the Park''. Her abortion episode for the Bea Arthur-starring series '' Maude'' in the 1970s won Harris the Humanitas Prize. George Wyner
George Wyner (born October 20, 1945) is an American film and television actor. Wyner graduated from Syracuse University in 1968 as a drama major and was an in-demand character actor by the early 1970s. Wyner has made guest appearances in over 100 television series and co-starred in nine. Barry Fanaro
Barry Fanaro is an American screenwriter of television and feature films. He has taught screenwriting seminars at USC, UCSB, AFI and Mercer University. Early life Fanaro graduated magna cum laude with a dual major from Mercer University, Macon Georgia. He also has an MFA from NYU's Tisch Graduate School of Film and Television. In the early 80s he was a performing member of The Groundling's Improv Theater Group. Career Fanaro wrote and produced over 250 episodes, pilots and original series for network television. Paul Junger Witt (March 20, 1941 – April 27, 2018) was an American film and television producer. He, with his partners Tony Thomas and Susan Harris (also his wife), produced such television shows as ''Here Come the Brides'', ''The Partridge Family'', ''The Golden Girls'', ''Soap'', ''Benson'', ''It's a Living'', ''Empty Nest'', and ''Blossom''.
