Hagenbecks Tierpark (Hamburg U-Bahn Station)
Hagenbecks Tierpark is a metro station on the Hamburg U-Bahn line U2. It is located in the Stellingen district of Hamburg within the borough of Eimsbüttel. It serves the Tierpark Hagenbeck. History In 1961, the Senate of Hamburg decided to build a cross-city route from Stellingen to Billstedt, whose already existing western part was extended from the former Hellkamp stop over the Lutterothstraße station to Hagenbeck's Tierpark, which was originally supposed to be called "Koppelstraße." While the line to Lutterothstraße was opened in 1965, Hagenbecks Tierpark station was not opened until 30 October 1966. The new line replaced tram line 16. For almost 19 years, Hagenbecks Tierpark was the terminus of the U2, until the extension to Niendorf Markt in 1985. Service Hagenbecks Tierpark station is served by the U2. U2 (Hamburg U-Bahn) Stations
U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin, formed in 1976. Trams In Hamburg
The Hamburg tramway network (german: Straßenbahnnetz Hamburg) once formed part of the public transport system in the city and federal state of Hamburg, Germany. Opened in 1866, the network lasted until 1978. Overview Hamburg's first tram service was with horsecars, beginning on 16 August 1866. Operation of steam-powered trams began on 13 May 1878 and continued until 1897, while horsecar service continued on some lines (with the last one surviving until 1922). Electric tram service was introduced on 5 March 1894 and continued until 1978, with the system closing on 1 October 1978. Billstedt () is a quarter in the borough Hamburg-Mitte, in the eastern part of Hamburg, Germany. In 2020, the population was 71,077, it was the second-most populous quarter. History Schifbeck, Öjendorf, Steinbeck and Schlem are the old settlements. Geography In 2006, according to the statistical office of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, the Billstedt quarter had a total area of 17 km². To the north is the Jenfeld quarter of the Wandsbek borough. The municipalities Barsbüttel and Oststeinbek in the German state Schleswig-Holstein are to the east. Tierpark Hagenbeck
The Tierpark Hagenbeck is a zoo in Stellingen, Hamburg, Germany. The collection began in 1863 with animals that belonged to Carl Hagenbeck Sr. (1810–1887), a fishmonger who became an amateur animal collector. The park itself was founded by Carl Hagenbeck Jr. in 1907. It is known for being the first zoo to use open enclosures surrounded by moats, rather than barred cages, to better approximate animals' natural environments. History Animal and Human trading In 1863, the elder Hagenbeck began collecting exotic animals that came through Hamburg's port. By the 1870s, the trade had proved more lucrative than his fish shop, and Hagenbeck had become one of the most prominent exotic animal traders in all of Europe. Eimsbüttel () is one of the seven boroughs (Bezirke) of Hamburg, Germany. In 2020 the population was 269,118. History On March 1, 2008 Eimsbüttel lost part of its area to the borough Altona where it formed the Sternschanze quarter.
