Haematomma Flexuosum
''Haematomma'' is a genus of crustose lichens established by Abramo Bartolommeo Massalongo in 1852. It is the sole genus in the Haematommataceae, a family circumscribed by Josef Hafellner in 1984. Commonly called bloodstain lichens, the species assigned to this genus are widely distributed in tropical and temperate areas. The genus name ''Haematomma'' means "bloody eye", a reference to the color of the lichen's apothecia. Josef Hafellner
Josef Hafellner (1951– ) is an Austrian mycologist and lichenologist. He was awarded the Acharius Medal in 2016 for his lifetime contributions to lichenology. Before his retirement, he was a professor at the Karl-Franzens-Universität in Graz. Hafellner started developing an interest in lichens while he was a student at this institution, studying under Josef Poelt. He earned a master's degree in 1975 and a PhD in 1978, defending a doctoral thesis about the genus '' Karschia''. In 2003, Hafellner received his habilitation. By this time, he had studied with French lichenologist André Bellemère (1927–2014) at Saint-Cloud, where he learned techniques of transmission electron microscopy and how their application in studying asci could be used in lichen systematics. His 1984 work ''Studien in Richtung einer natürlicheren Gliederung der Sammelfamilien Lecanoraceae und Lecideaceae'' has been described as "probably the single most influential publication in lichen systematics in t ...

Haematomma Ochroleucum
''Haematomma ochroleucum'', also known as yellow bloodstain lichen, is a species of crustose lichenized fungus. First described in 1771 by Noël Martin Joseph de Necker, it has no subspecies, but two named varieties: ''H. o.'' var. ''ochroleucum'' and ''H. o.'' var. ''porphyrium''. Taxonomy Belgian botanist Noël Martin Joseph de Necker first described ''Haematomma ochroleucum'' in 1771 from a type specimen collected from shaded rocks in the Rheinland-Pfalz region of Germany. He named it ''Lichen ochroleucus''. When Jack Laundon moved the species to the genus ''Haematomma'' in 1970, he created the combination ''Haematomma ochroleucum'' to replace the illegitimately named ''Haematomma coccineum''. The latter name had been given to a later description of the same species, and had gained widespread usage; however, Necker's name took taxonomic precedence. ''Haematomma ochroleucum'' is the type species for the genus ''Haematomma''. It has no subspecies, but it does have two named ...

Haematomma Nicoyense
''Haematomma nicoyense'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling) lichen in the family Haematommataceae. Found in Costa Rica, it was formally described as a new species in 2006 by Matthew Nelsen, Robert Lücking, and José Luis Chaves. The type specimen was collected from the Monte Alto Forest Reserve in the Nicoya Peninsula at an elevation between . Here, in lowland to lower montane moist forests, the species was found growing on the lower trunks of exposed trees and on fence posts. The specific epithet refers to the type locality. The lichen has a greyish-white, areolate thallus that is cracked and measures across. Soralia are granular, and scattered across the thallus surface, measuring up to 1 mm in diameter. Ascospores number eight per ascus, and are narrowly (spindle-shaped) with between 3 and 6 septa and have dimensions of 40–65 by 3–4 μm The micrometre ( international spelling as used by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures; S ...
