HD 104985 b, also named Meztli , is an extrasolar planet approximately 97 parsecs (317 lys) from the Sun. The 198-day period planet orbits the yellow giant star HD 104985 (Tonatiuh) at a distance of 0.78 AU. With a mass 61/3 times Jupiter it is a gas giant. Following its discovery in 2003 the planet was designated HD 104985 b. In July 2014 the International Astronomical Union launched NameExoWorlds, a process for giving proper names to certain exoplanets and their host stars. The process involved public nomination and voting for the new names. In December 2015, the IAU announced the winning name was Meztli for this planet. Okayama Planet Search Program
The Okayama Planet Search Program (OPSP) was started in 2001 with the goal of spectroscopically searching for planetary systems around stars. It reported on the detection of 3 new extrasolar planets: (18 Delphini b, Xi Aquilae b, xi Aql b, and 41 Lyncis b), around intermediate-mass G and K star, K giants 18 Delphini, Xi Aquilae, and HD 81688. Also, it updated the orbital parameters of HD 104985 b, the first planet discovered around the G star, G giants from the survey, by using the data collected during the past six years. Since 2001, it has been conducting a precise Doppler effect, Doppler Astronomical survey, survey of about 300 G and K giants using a 1.88m telescope, the High Dispersion Echelle Spectrograph (HIDES), and an iodine absorption cell I2 cell at the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). A gas giant is a giant planet composed mainly of hydrogen and helium. Gas giants are also called failed stars because they contain the same basic elements as a star. Camelopardalis
Camelopardalis is a large but faint constellation of the northern sky representing a giraffe. The constellation was introduced in 1612 or 1613 by Petrus Plancius. In Aztec mythology, Mētztli (; also rendered Meztli, Metzi, literally "Moon") was a god or goddess of the moon, the night, and farmers. They were likely the same deity as Yohaulticetl or Coyolxauhqui and the male moon god Tecciztecatl; like the latter, who feared the Sun because of its fire. NameExoWorlds (also known as IAU NameExoWorlds) is the name of various projects managed by the International Astronomical Union (I.A.U.) to encourage names to be submitted for astronomical objects, which would later be considered for official adoption by the organization.
