H. J. J. L. De Stuers
Hubert Joseph Jean Lambert ridder de Stuers (November 16, 1788 in Roermond – April 13, 1861 in Maastricht) was a Dutch general and commander of the East Indies Army. Life De Stuers joined the French army as a volunteer and in 1817 he left for the Dutch East Indies with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. In 1821 he was appointed commander of the Moluccas. In 1822 he commanded an expedition against Chinese in Borneo, in 1823 he invaded Bone in Sulawesi and from 1824 to 1829 he was military commander and resident of Padang and dependencies. From 1831 to 1838 De Stuers was a General and he commanded the Royal Dutch East Indies Army, after which he lived at Maastricht, where he died on April 13, 1861. Royal Dutch East Indies Army
The Royal Netherlands East Indies Army ( nl, Koninklijk Nederlands Indisch Leger; KNIL, ) was the military force maintained by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in its colony of the Dutch East Indies, in areas that are now part of Indonesia. The KNIL's air arm was the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force. Elements of the Royal Netherlands Navy and Government Navy were also stationed in the Netherlands East Indies. History 1814–1942 The KNIL was formed by royal decree on 14 September 1814. It was not part of the Royal Netherlands Army, but a separate military arm specifically formed for service in the Netherlands East Indies. Zaltbommel
Zaltbommel (), also known, historically and colloquially, as Bommel, is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands. History The city of Zaltbommel The town of Zaltbommel was first mentioned as "Bomela" in the year 850. Zaltbommel received city rights in 1231 and these were renewed in 1316. In 1599 during the Eighty Years War, Zaltbommel was besieged by Spanish forces but was relieved by an Anglo-Dutch force led by Maurice of Orange. The bridge over the Waal at Zaltbommel (which has since been replaced) features in a celebrated twentieth-century Dutch sonnet, ''De moeder de vrouw'', by Martinus Nijhoff. Roermond
Roermond (; li, Remunj or ) is a city, municipality, and diocese in the Limburg province of the Netherlands. Roermond is a historically important town on the lower Roer on the east bank of the river Meuse. It received town rights in 1231. Roermond's town centre has become a designated conservation area. Sulawesi (), also known as Celebes (), is an island in Indonesia. Bone State
Bone (also ''Boni'', or ''Bone Saoraja'') was a sultanate in the south-west peninsula of what is now Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), a province of modern-day Indonesia. It came under Dutch rule in 1905, and was succeeded by the Bone Regency. Covering an area of , Bone's chief town Boni, lay northeast of the city of Makassar, home to the Bugis people.
