Günther Sigl
Günther Sigl (; born 8 February 1947) is a German people, German composer, lyricist and musician. He is co-founder of the Spider Murphy Gang and he sings and plays bass guitar for the band. Early life Sigl was born in 1947 in Schongau, Bavaria, Schongau, Upper Bavaria, at the time of Allied-occupied Germany, Allied occupation in the wake of World War II (Schongau lay in the American occupation zone in Germany, American zone). He moved with his parents to Landsberg am Lech, where he began school in 1953, and then in 1958 he moved on to Karlsruhe, where he went to the trade school. At the age of 15, he got his first guitar. Beginning in 1964, he underwent training as a bank teller. It was in this time that Sigl discovered his passion for music, sang and played archtop guitar in the Beat music, beat band "The Wavebreakers", with whom he appeared at, among other venues, Hamburg's Star-Club, which earned him a certain amount of credibility elsewhere in the German music scene. Schongau, Bavaria
Schongau is a town in Bavaria, near the Alps. It is located along the Lech, between Landsberg am Lech and Füssen. It has about 12,000 inhabitants. Schongau has a well-preserved old wall around the center. Local history The origin of Schongau is the current Altenstadt (lit.: old town). A large number of the inhabitants moved only a few kilometres into a new settlement founded on the Lech and took the name Schongau with them in the 13th century. "Skandal im Sperrbezirk" is a song by the German rock band Spider Murphy Gang released in September 1981. It was released as a single from their album Dolce vita. The song became the band's first and only number-one song, selling about 750,000 copies. Background Music and text to the song were written by the band's vocalist and bassist Günther Sigl. The band's keyboard player Michael Busse was influenced by The Who's song " Won't Get Fooled Again" for the motive of playing a staccato-like melodies with an electronic organ and used a Moog Liberation keytar to recreate this sound. With the usage of a pitch wheel and the vibrato, Busse was able to simulate the sound of a police siren. Conscription In Germany
The Federal Republic of Germany had conscription (''Wehrpflicht'') for male citizens between 1956 and 2011. On 22 November 2010, the German Minister of Defence proposed to the government to put conscription into abeyance on 1 July 2011. The constitution, however, retains provisions that would legalize the potential reintroduction of conscription. The ''Grundgesetz'' (Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany) and several special laws (e.g., ''Wehrpflichtgesetz'') were regulating these duties and the exceptions. During the last year when conscription was active, men were obliged to serve six months either in the military, which they could refuse, and do alternative civilian service, or honorary service (like any volunteer) for at least six months in a civil protection organisation.
