Gülderen Çelik
Gülderen Çelik (born April 13, 1980, in Istanbul, Turkey) is a Turkish karateka competing in the kumite –53 kg division. The tall athlete is member of the Sarıyer Belediyespor in Istanbul. Her trainer is Turan Yılmaz. Personal life She was born the youngest of five children in the Mecidiyeköy neighborhood of Istanbul. Following her graduation from the high school in 2001, she enrolled in Trakya University to study physical education. Immediately after finishing the university, she was appointed as a teacher in a school in Istanbul, where she serves today. Sports career Aged only 12 years, Çelik was inspired by a neighbor's young boy performing karate. In 1992 she started in attending karate lessons given by Bahattin Kandez, a former national karate practitioner. He is still her tutor. Sarıyer
Sarıyer () is the northernmost district of Istanbul, Turkey, on the European side of the city. It consists of the neighbourhoods of Rumelifeneri, Tarabya, Yeniköy, İstinye, Emirgan and Rumelihisarı. Sarıyer also administers the Black Sea coast to the west of the mouth of the Bosphorus, including the neighbourhood of Kilyos. Kumite
Kumite ( ja, 組手, literally "grappling hands") is one of the three main sections of karate training, along with kata and kihon. Kumite is the part of karate in which a person trains against an adversary. Kumite can be used to develop a particular technique or a skill (e.g. effectively judging and adjusting one's distance from one's opponent) or it can be done in competition. Types Since the word "kumite" refers to forms of sparring, it covers a vast range of activities. In traditional Shotokan karate, the first type of kumite for beginners is ''gohon kumite''. 2009 Mediterranean Games
The 2009 Mediterranean Games, officially the XVI Mediterranean Games ( it, XVI Giochi del Mediterraneo) and commonly known as Pescara 2009, was a multi-sport event held in Pescara, Italy, from 26 June to 5 July 2009. It was governed by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) (french: Comité international des Jeux méditerranéens). The Mediterranean Games is a multi-sport event organised by the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (CIJM).
