Götz Spielmann
Götz Spielmann (born 11 January 1961) is an Austrian director and scriptwriter. Life and career Spielmann was born in Wels, Austria, and grew up in Vienna. After High School, he lived in Paris for several months. From 1980 to 1987 he studied film direction and script-writing in Vienna at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. At the Viennese Filmacadamy, his professors included Harald Zusanek and Axel Corti. After making several short films, and receiving his diploma with ''Vergiss Sneider!,'' with the drama ''Erwin und Julia'', Spielmann had his first great success. In 1993, his film ''Der Nachbar'' won the ''Vienna Filmaward'' at the Viennale. And in 1994, his film for television ''Dieses naive Verlangen'' was awarded with the ''Erich-Neuberg-Preis''. In 2006, he was honored with the ''Upper Austrian Landeskulturpreis'' in the “Film” section. Spielmann is one of the most important contemporary Austrian film directors. Crossing Europe
Crossing Europe is an international film festival in Linz, Austria, that takes place every year in April since 2004. It defines itself as a platform for young European film makers. The focus of the film selection lies on sociopolitical and youth cultural topics. Every year, about 180 films from more than 30 European countries are chosen to be shown on this six days long festival. Besides Vienna International Film Festival, Viennale and Diagonale, Crossing Europe is the third biggest film festival of Austria with about 20.000 visitors every year. Festival juries give away awards in several categories to European fictional and documentary films as well as to locally produced films. For the award competition, only the first or second film made by a director can be qualified. The main prize, the Crossing Europe Award, is endowed with €10,000. Revanche (film)
''Revanche'' is a 2008 Austrian thriller film written and directed by Götz Spielmann. It centers on the ill-fated love story between a Viennese ex-con and a Ukrainian prostitute who get involved in a bank robbery. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2008. It received critical acclaim and won a number of awards, and was nominated for the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Plot Alex, an ex-convict living in Vienna and working as muscle at a brothel, starts a relationship with Tamara, a Ukrainian prostitute who works there.
