Gérard Troupeau (1927 – 15 December 2010, Tours) was a French scholar agrégé of Arabic, a professor at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales from 1961 to 1990, and director of studies of Arabic philology at the École pratique des hautes études The École pratique des hautes études (), abbreviated EPHE, is a Grand Établissement in Paris, France. Tours ( , ) is one of the largest cities in the region of Centre-Val de Loire, France. It is the Prefectures in France, prefecture of the Departments of France, department of Indre-et-Loire. In France, the ''agrégation'' () is a competitive examination for civil service in the French public education system. Candidates for the examination, or ''agrégatifs'', become ''agrégés'' once they are admitted to the position of ''professeur agrégé''.
