Gypsies Of The Night
''Gypsies of the Night'' (german: Zigeuner der Nacht) is a 1932 German film directed by Hanns Schwarz and starring Jenny Jugo, Hans Brausewetter, and Paul Kemp. A separate French-language version '' Happy Hearts'' was also released. The film's sets were designed by the art director Ernö Metzner. It was partly shot on location at Hamburg Harbour. Hanns Schwarz
Hanns Schwarz (11 February 1888 – 27 October 1945) was an Austrian Empire, Austrian film director. He was born in Vienna on 11 February 1888. Biography He directed twenty four films between 1924 and 1937 in both English-language, English and German-language, German. During the late silent film, silent and early sound era, sound eras, he was a leading director at the large German studio Universum Film AG, UFA. In the early 1930s he worked on several Multiple-language version, multi-language version films for UFA, producing the same films in distinct German and foreign-language versions. Schwarz was Jewish and was therefore forced to leave Germany in 1933 when the Nazis took over, going into exile in Britain. His last film was the 1937 British thriller ''Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel''. He died in California on 27 October 1945. The Port of Hamburg (german: Hamburger Hafen, ) is a seaport on the river Elbe in Hamburg, Germany, from its mouth on the North Sea. Julius Falkenstein (25 February 1879 – 9 December 1933) was a German stage and film actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 180 films between 1914 and 1933. Falkenstein was Jewish, but secured a special permit to continue making films following the Nazi rise to power in 1933. He died of natural causes the same year, having made only one further film. Theo Lingen (; 10 June 1903 – 10 November 1978), born Franz Theodor Schmitz, was a German actor, film director and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 230 films between 1929 and 1978, and directed 21 films between 1936 and 1960. Life and career Lingen was born the son of a lawyer in the city of Hanover, and grew up there. He attended the Royal Goethe Gymnasium – the predecessor of the Goethe School – in Hanover, but left before taking the Abitur (final exams). His theatrical talent was discovered during rehearsals for a school performance at the ''Schauburg'' boulevard theatre. Beginning his professional stage career, the young actor adopted as a stage name his middle name together with that of the birthplace of his father, Lingen in the North German Emsland region.
