Gympie Railway Station
Gympie railway station is an Australian heritage-listed former railway station in Gympie, Queensland, on the North Coast railway line, Queensland, North Coast line. It was the primary railway station serving Gympie from 1881 until 1989. Original railway station After the discovery of gold in October 1867 by James Nash (prospector), James Nash in Gympie, the requirement of a railway line linked to a port became apparent. In 1877, the Government of Queensland, Queensland Government approved the construction of three railways to connect mining towns to their principal ports: Townsville to Charters Towers; Bundaberg to Mount Perry, Queensland, Mount Perry; and Maryborough, Queensland, Maryborough to Gympie. The station buildings at Gympie and Maryborough were positioned at the Terminal train station#Terminus, terminus of the track line, marking the railway's dead end status. Gympie ( ) is a city and a Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Gympie Region, Queensland, Australia. Queensland Heritage Register
The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. As at 5 April 2020 there are 1790 places on the Queensland Heritage Register, including the Story Bridge in Brisbane and the Ross River Meatworks Chimney in Townsville. Criteria For a place to be entered in the register, it must be nominated and then go through a process of assessment. Imbil is a rural town and locality in the Gympie Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Imbil had a population of 924 people. Geography Imbil is in the Wide Bay–Burnett district in the Mary River valley, north of the state capital, Brisbane. History The town takes its name from the Imbil pastoral run which was named 1857 by the pastoralists Clement Francis Lawless and Paul Lawless. ''Imbil'' is a Kabi word referring to the bamboo vine, and is also used to refer to a lagoon below the Imbil station house. The town was established in 1868 at the start of the gold rush in the area. Overview The magazine's publisher is the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS), NSW Division. Gympie North Railway Station
Gympie North railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the town of Gympie. History Gympie North was opened on 4 February 1989 as a replacement for Gympie station, when the latter was bypassed by a new eight kilometre alignment that was built as part of the electrification of the North Coast line. The station consists of one platform. Opposite the platform lie two crossing loops, and a siding in which an InterCity Express electric multiple unit stables at night. Services Gympie North is the northern boundary of the TransLink network. It is serviced by two daily City network services towards Brisbane Roma Street. Rail Electrification In Queensland
In the late 1970s and 1980s, a significant rail electrification program was completed in the Australian state of Queensland. The electrified Queensland network is the largest in Australia with over 2,000 kilometres electrified, the next biggest is New South Wales with 640 kilometres, that is served mainly as passenger operations.
