Gymnastics At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Horizontal Bar
The men's horizontal bar competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held at the HSBC Arena on 6 and 16 August. There were 71 competitors from 34 nations. The event was won by Fabian Hambüchen of Germany, the nation's first victory in the horizontal bar since 1996 and third overall. Danell Leyva won the United States' third silver medal in four Games in the event; Nile Wilson's bronze was Great Britain's first-ever medal in the horizontal bar. The medals were presented by Claudia Bokel IOC member, Germany and Naomi Valenzo, FIG Executive Committee Member. Background This was the 24th appearance of the event, which is one of the five apparatus events held every time there were apparatus events at the Summer Olympics (no apparatus events were held in 1900, 1908, 1912, or 1920). HSBC Arena
Jeunesse Arena is an indoor multi-purpose arena, located in the region of Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is named for the American cosmetics company Jeunesse Global through a naming rights deal closed in 2017. Before, the sponsor name was HSBC Arena. The arena was completed in July 2007 and was first known as Arena Olímpica do Rio ''(Rio Olympic Arena)'', which it was known as during the 2016 Summer Olympics. Manrique Larduet
Manrique Larduet Bicet (born July 10, 1996) is a Cuban former artistic gymnast. Larduet grew up in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba and is famous for his history-making silver at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He has also competed at the Pan American Games. At the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, although he qualified first into the all-around, he had mistakes on floor exercise and pommel horse in the finals, and ended up in fifth place, the winner being Xiao Ruoteng of China. He has qualified to represent Cuba at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the men's artistic gymnastics all-around event. Oleg Verniaiev
Oleg Yuriyovych Verniaiev ( uk, Олег Юрійович Верняєв; born 29 September 1993) is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast. He is the 2016 Olympic parallel bars champion and individual all-around silver medalist. Verniaiev is also the 2014 World parallel bars champion, the 2015 European individual all-around champion and the 2017 European individual all-around champion. Verniaiev tested positive for the banned substance meldonium in an out-of-competition test in August 2020. He received a four-year ban, starting in November 2020. In early 2023 the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the ban to two years after Verniaiev successfully appealed his case. Personal life Verniaiev was born in Donetsk. Samuel Anthony Mikulak (born October 13, 1992) is a retired American artistic gymnast. He is a six-time U.S. national all-around champion (2013–2016, 2018–2019), the 2018 World bronze medalist on high bar, and a three-time Olympian (2012, 2016, and 2020). He is also an eight-time NCAA champion, winning the team, individual all-around and several individual event titles at the 2011, 2013 and 2014 NCAA Men's Gymnastics championships. Qualification for men's artistic gymnastic competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held at the HSBC Arena on 6 August 2016. The results of the qualification determined the qualifiers to the finals: 8 teams in the team final, 24 gymnasts in the all-around final, and 8 gymnasts in each of six apparatus finals. The competition was divided to 3 subdivisions. Subdivisions Gymnasts from nations taking part in the team all-around event are grouped together while the other gymnasts are grouped into one of six mixed groups. Andrei Vasile Muntean (born 30 January 1993) is a Romanian male artistic gymnast and a member of the national team. He won gold medals on the parallel bars at the 2002 European Junior Championships and on the rings at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. Marian Drăgulescu
Marian Drăgulescu (born 18 December 1980 in Bucharest) is a former Romanian artistic gymnast. During his senior gymnastics career he won 31 medals at Olympic Games at World and European Championships, of which eight are gold medals at the World Championships and ten are gold medals at European Championships. Drăgulescu's strongest events were vault and floor, on which he was a multiple world champion and Olympic medalist.
