The men's parallel bars competition was one of eight events for male competitors of the artistic gymnastics discipline contested in the gymnastics at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The qualification and final rounds took place on August 14 and August 23 at the Olympic Indoor Hall. There were 81 competitors from 31 nations, with nations competing in the team event having up to 5 gymnasts and other nations having up to 2 gymnasts. The event was won by Valeriy Honcharov of Ukraine, the nation's second victory in the parallel bars. Hiroyuki Tomita took silver, putting Japan above the Soviet Union on the all-time medal table for the event (both nations had four golds, the Soviet Union had led Japan 5–4 in silvers, and Japan had more bronzes 6–1). Olympic Indoor Hall
The O.A.C.A. Olympic Indoor Hall (honorarily named ''Nikos Galis Olympic Indoor Hall'' since 2016), which is a part of the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (O.A.C.A.) « Spyros Louis» ( el, O.A.K.A. «Σπύρος Λούης»), was completed in 1995, and was the largest indoor venue in use for sporting events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Huang Xu
Huang Xu (; born February 4, 1979) is a Chinese artistic gymnast. He specializes on the pommel horse and the parallel bars and is also strong on still rings. Background Huang began gymnastics training when he was five and was a member of the Jiangxu provincial team in 1989. At the age of 14, he was selected into the national team. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, three disciplines of gymnastics were contested: artistic gymnastics (August 14–23), rhythmic gymnastics (August 26–29) and trampoline (August 20–21). The artistic gymnastics and trampoline events were held at the Olympic Indoor Hall and the rhythmic gymnastics events were held at the Galatsi Olympic Hall. Yernar Yerimbetov
Yernar Yerimbetov (born February 15, 1980, in Almaty) is a Kazakhstani gymnast. Yerimbetov trained under the old Soviet system until the USSR dissolved. He first competed internationally at age 17, in the 1997 Junior International. He finished 24th All Around (AA) with a 46.650. At the 2001 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, he made finals on Floor and Vault, finishing in 6th place. He also made finals on Floor and Vault, finishing out of the medals. Daisuke Nakano

He helped his Japanese gymnastics team claim a gold medal in the Gymnastics at the 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's artistic team all-around, all-around competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
