Gymnastics At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's Artistic Qualification
These are the results of the women's qualification round, the preliminary round which decided the finalists for all six events for women in artistic gymnastics at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The qualification round took place on September 17 at the Sydney SuperDome. The top twelve teams from the 1999 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships completed for places in the team final. Each team was allowed to bring up to six gymnasts. During qualification, each team could have up to five gymnasts compete on each apparatus, and could count the four highest scores for the team total. The six teams with the highest scores in the qualification round advanced to the team final. Individual gymnasts, including those who were not part of a team, competed for places in the all-around and apparatus finals. The thirty-six gymnasts with the highest scores in the all-around advanced to that final, except that each country could only send three gymnasts to the all-around final. The ei ... Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses. The sport is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), which designs the Code of Points and regulates all aspects of elite international competition. Olha Rozshchupkina (born 26 March 1984) is a Ukrainian former artistic gymnast. She competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics, where she placed 7th in the all-around and 6th in the uneven bars event final. sports-reference.com. Retrieved May 5, 2013. Amy Chow
Amy Yuen Yee Chow (Chinese: 周 婉 儀; pinyin: Zhōu Wǎnyí; born May 15, 1978) is an American former artistic gymnast who competed at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. She is best known for being a member of the Magnificent Seven, which won the United States' first team gold medal in Olympic gymnastics. She is also the first Asian-American woman to win an Olympic medal in gymnastics. Early life Chow was born to Nelson and Susan Chow, who had immigrated to the United States from Guangzhou and Hong Kong, respectively. Chow began gymnastics training in 1981 at the age of 3. Her mother wanted her to be a ballerina and tried enrolling her in ballet schools, none of which would take a child that young. Elise Ray
Mary Elise Ray (born February 6, 1982) is an American gymnast who represented the United States at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the 1999 World Championships. She was the head gymnastics coach at the University of Washington from 2016 to 2020. Biography and early career Ray attended Steven's Forest Elementary School and Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, Maryland and went on to train at Hill's Angels club in Maryland under Kelli Hill, coach of Olympic medalists Dominique Dawes and Courtney Kupets. Esther Moya Salvador (born 31 July 1984) is a former Spanish gymnast. She was notably strong on two events: the floor exercise and vault. She participated in two world championships and the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her best event was vault.
