Gye of Baekje (died 346, r. 344–346) was the twelfth king of Baekje, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. Background He was the eldest son of the 10th king Bunseo, who was assassinated in 304. The ''Samguk Sagi'' records that "''he was naturally hard and brace, and skilled with horse and bow. When Bunseo died, Gye was too young to succeed him, so Biryu (younger brother of the 7th king Saban) succeeded him, dying in the 41st year of his own reign. Then Gye succeeded him''". Frederick Gye
Frederick Gye (the younger) (1810–1878) was an English businessman and opera manager who for many years ran what is now the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Life Gye, son of Frederick Gye (the elder), was born at Finchley, Middlesex, in 1810, and educated at Frankfurt-am-Main. He assisted his father in the management of Vauxhall Gardens from about 1830, and at the same period had a contract for lighting some of the government buildings. He was afterwards associated with Monsieur Louis Antoine Jullien in the Covent Garden promenade concerts in 1846, and was his acting-manager when Jullien opened Drury Lane Theatre as an English opera house in 1847. When Edward Delafield became lessee of the Italian Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1848, Gye was appointed business manager. Harold Frederick Neville Gye (22 May 1887 — 25 November 1967), who published under the name Hal Gye, was an author of cartoons, illustrations and articles for early Australian newspapers and journals. Gye provided the artwork for ''The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke'' by Australian novelist and poet C. J. Dennis. Gye was born on 22 May 1887 at Ryde, New South Wales. He exhibited a flair for humour and dabbled in poetry, writing over sixty pieces. William Ewart Gye
William Ewart Gye FRS (born William Ewart Bullock; 11 August 1889, Breaston – 14 October 1952) was a British pathologist and cancer researcher. Career After a difficult financial struggle, Bullock matriculated at University College, Nottingham and, after studying chemistry under Kipping, graduated there with a BSc in 1906. In 1911, Bullock married his first wife, Elsa Gye, who was a dedicated suffragette. Bullock studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and in 1912 graduated there MBChB. In 1913 he received his Doctor of Medicine qualification from the university, and won a gold medal for his medical thesis. He also won the Ellis Prize in Physiology for his essay, “The chemistry of nerve degeneration.” In 1913, he joined the staff of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, which at that time was under the direction of Ernest Francis Bashford. Elsa Gye
Elsa Gye (1881–1943) was a music student at Guildhall who became a suffragette and involved in disruptive events in London and Scotland and was imprisoned for the cause of women's suffrage. She married the brother of fellow suffragette Daisy Bullock, William Ewart Gye in 1911 whilst he was a medical student at Edinburgh, and had her first child in 1912. He took her surname. Later he went on to work with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and Gye helped the creation of the Suffragette Record Room in London. Early life Elsa was educated at Croydon High School and the Guildhall School of Music. Life as a suffragette Gye was one of a large number of women who hid in furniture vehicles and rushed on Parliament on 11–13 February 1908, and was arrested and sentenced to six weeks in prison. __NOTOC__ Guinness Yeast Extract, commonly known by its initials GYE, was an Irish savoury spread, made from yeast extract. It was a by-product of the Guinness beer brewing process and produced by Arthur Guinness Son & Co., Dublin. The product was launched in Ireland on 2 November, 1936 and discontinued in 1968. In addition to spreading on toast or bread, one or two level teaspoonfuls added to each of soup enriched the flavour while enhancing the nutritional value. It could also be used as an emergency gravy without any addition except hot water for diluting. It was used to strengthen normal gravy, and flavour stews and dishes containing minced meat. A half a teaspoonful added to a glass of hot water or hot milk produced a drink consumed at elevenses, teatime, and as a nightcap.
