Gwydir Shire
Gwydir Shire is a local government area located in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. The northern boundary of the Shire is located adjacent to the border between New South Wales and Queensland. The Shire was established on 17 March 2004, when the Yallaroi, Bingara, and a northern portion of the Barraba shires were merged. The seat of the Council is located in the major centre of the area in the town of Bingara. Other major towns include Warialda. The Mayor of the Gwydir Shire Council is Cr. John Coulton, who is unaligned with any political party. Yallaroi Shire
Yallaroi Shire was a local government area located in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia, about south of Goondiwindi via Fossickers Way. The Shire, administered from the town of Warialda, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1906 until 2004, when it was amalgamated with Bingara Shire and part of Barraba to form the Gwydir Shire. History In August 1897, a public meeting was held in Warialda to consider "the desirableness of transferring the village into a municipality". The residents decided against the proposal at this time, but two years later, petitioned the Governor for a municipality with a population of more than 500 and an area of . The Warialda Municipality thus came into being on 30 March 1900. John Crane was elected its first mayor. With the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1906'', which established shires all over New South Wales, the Yallaroi Shire was gazetted to serve the surrounding district on 6 March 1906. ...

Gravesend, New South Wales
Gravesend is a village on the North West Slopes of New South Wales, Australia. The town is located 25 km west of Warialda on the Gwydir Highway near the Gwydir River and in the Gwydir Shire local government area, north of the state capital, Sydney. At the 2006 census, Gravesend and the surrounding area had a population of 276. The village is situated at an elevation of approximately 275 metres (904 feet). History The town grew from a fettler's camp established on Gravesend station with the coming of the railway around 1900. Gravesend Post Office opened on 1 February 1900. Croppa Creek, New South Wales
Croppa Creek is a very small village and railway location in the Gwydir Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It was the site of a railway station on the Boggabilla branch between Moree and North Star from 1932 until 1976 and is still a seasonal loading point for freight trains carrying bulk grain. In the 2016 census, the area surrounding Croppa Creek had a population of 120. The village was settled following the opening of the railway line, and grew through the 1930s and 1940s with new industry, agricultural areas and housing subdivisions established. Today, the main economic activity is mixed farming, with crops produced including wheat, barley, sorghum and cotton. Sheep and cattle grazing is also common in the area.
