Gwern-y-Steeple
Gwern-y-steeple is a hamlet in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It lies north of the A48 road and north-west St. Nicholas (to which it is linked by Chapel Lane) on the road south-west of Peterston-Super-Ely. Cottrell Park Golf Club lies to the south. Gwern-y-steeple is part of the village of Peterston-Super-Ely and lies within the catchment area of both Peterson-Super-Ely Church in Wales Primary School and Pendoylan Primary School. Peterston-super-Ely
Peterston-super-Ely ( cy, Llanbedr-y-fro) is a village and community situated on the River Ely ( cy, Afon Elái) in the county borough of the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. The community population at the 2011 census was 874. The community includes the hamlet of Gwern-y-Steeple. History As its name suggests, the local parish church, now in heavily restored simple Perpendicular style, is dedicated to Saint Peter and situated close to the River Ely ( cy, Afon Elái). In the conservation area, the oldest structure is what remains of Peterston Castle built by the Norman lords of the manor, Le Sor family, probably in the mid-13th century and replacing an earlier structure which had been destroyed by the Welsh and again by Owain Glyndŵr in 1403. Despite being a scheduled monument, the castle remains have been progressively destroyed by housing development. The earliest feature of St. Peter's Church is the 14th-century chancel arch but the church is more notable for its Perpendicu ... The Vale of Glamorgan ( cy, Bro Morgannwg ), often referred to as The Vale, is a county borough in the south-east of Wales. It borders Bridgend County Borough to the west, Cardiff to the east, Rhondda Cynon Taf to the north, and the Bristol Channel to the south. A48 Road
The A48 is a trunk road in Great Britain running from the A40 at Highnam, west of Gloucester, England, to the A40 at Carmarthen, Wales. Before the Severn Bridge opened on 8 September 1966, it was a major route between England and South Wales. For most of its route, it runs almost parallel to the M4 motorway. During times of high winds at the Severn Bridge, the A48 is used as part of the diversion route and is still marked as a Holiday Route. From Gloucester, the A48 runs through the villages of Minsterworth, Westbury-on-Severn, connects to a link road to Cinderford in the Forest of Dean then through Newnham, Blakeney and since 1995, bypassing Lydney on the west bank of the River Severn. It crosses the England–Wales border at Chepstow and continues westwards close to the South Wales coast passing Newport, Cardiff, Cowbridge, Bridgend, Pyle, Port Talbot, Neath and Swansea, before terminating at the junction with the A40 near the centre of Carmarthen. Alun Cairns
Alun Hugh Cairns (born 30 July 1970) is a Welsh Conservative Party politician serving as the member of Parliament (MP) for Vale of Glamorgan since 2010. He served as Secretary of State for Wales from 2016 to 2019. He was previously a member of the National Assembly for Wales for the South Wales West region from 1999 to 2011. Elected to the British House of Commons at the 2010 general election, he resigned as Secretary of State for Wales in November 2019, after claims he had known about a former aide's role in the "sabotage" of a rape trial.
