Icelandic (; is, íslenska, link=no ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about 314,000 people, the vast majority of whom live in Iceland, where it is the national language. Due to being a West Scandinavian language, it is most closely related to Faroese, western Norwegian dialects, and the extinct language, Norn. The language is more conservative than most other Germanic languages. While most of them have greatly reduced levels of inflection (particularly noun declension), Icelandic retains a four- case synthetic grammar (comparable to German, though considerably more conservative and synthetic) and is distinguished by a wide assortment of irregular declensions. Guðmundur Kamban
Guðmundur Kamban (8 June 1888 – 5 May 1945) was an Icelandic playwright and novelist. Biography He was born in the farm of Litlibær in Garðasókn, Iceland, son of a merchant of an old and well-known Icelandic family. He graduated from the College of Reykjavík, where he received honoris causa in literature and language. While still at college, he was made assistant editor of the best known newspaper in Iceland, edited by Björn Jónsson. In 1906 his psychic abilities were also investigated by the Experimental Society founded by Einar Hjörleifsson Kvaran: as a clairvoyant, he succeeded in divining the contents of closed books, and as an automatic writer he penned works supposedly by Hans Christian Andersen, Jónas Hallgrímsson, and Snorri Sturluson. But he lost his mediumistic abilities after a serious illness. Guðmundur Andri Thorsson is an editor, critic, and author born in Iceland on 31 December 1957. He received his degree in literature in 1983 from the University of Iceland. Guðmundur Steinarsson (born 20 October 1979) is an Icelandic international former association football, footballer who played as a Striker (association football), striker. Steinarsson is currently assistant manager at Ungmennafélagið Fjölnir, Fjölnir. The Palmason model is a depth, distance, temperature and heat flow gradient model of crustal accretion mechanism through the Iceland lithosphere which denotes the spreading material trajectories from a rift axis. The material erupting at the rift axis will tend to sink down, due to thermal subsidence and spreading, to a depth of many kilometers, while lava flows spreading to a distance of many kilometers away from the rift axis on the surface will sink down to shallower depth. Guðmundur Þór Kárason (born 14 June 1974) is an Icelandic puppet designer and puppeteer who is best known for his work on '' LazyTown''. Born in Reykjavík, Iceland, Guðmundur is the son of director Kári H. Þórsson and visual artist Jenný E. Guðmundsdóttir. In 1994, he founded Wit Puppets in Iceland, working on commercials, theater and television programs. Guðmundur Jónsson (born 11 December 1953) is an Icelandic architect who lives in Norway. He was educated at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (1975–1981) and ILAUD (International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design) in Italy in autumn 1979. He practiced with Lund & Slatto and Eliassen and Lamertz-Nilssen in Oslo from 1981 to 1987 and established Gudmundur Jonsson Arkitektkontor in the same year.
