Guy-Crescent Fagon
Guy-Crescent Fagon (11 May 1638 – 11 March 1718) was a French physician and botanist. He came from nobility and his uncle, Guy de La Brosse, had founded the Royal Gardens. Fagon was director of the gardens too. His substitute professors were Gilles-François Boulduc, Antoine de Saint-Yon and Étienne François Geoffroy. His significance in botany is reflected in the genus Fagonia being named after him. He also acted as the physician of Louis XIV of France. Guy De La Brosse
Guy de La Brosse (1586 – 1641 in Paris), was a French botanist, medical doctor, and pharmacist. A physician to King Louis XIII of France, he is also notable for the creation of a major botanical garden of medicinal herbs, which was commissioned by the king. This garden, the '' Jardin des Plantes'' (originally ''Jardin du Roi'') was the first botanical garden in Paris, and the second in France (after the Montpellier garden created in 1593). Biography Guy de La Brosse, medical doctor to Louis XIII, obtained royal permission on 6 July 1626 to found, in Paris, a herb garden destined to culture plants useful to medicine to replace those of Montpellier created by Henri IV. But this project took some time to come to fruition since the Faculty of Medicine in Paris considered the garden as competition to their activities, because La Brosse wished to teach botany and chemistry there. Gilles-François Boulduc
Gilles-François Boulduc (born 20 February 1675 in Paris; died 17 January 1741 in Palace of Versailles, Versailles) was a French pharmacist and chemist.All but one reference gives 20 February 1675 as the date of birth. The closest reference to this date of death is that of his eulogy by Jean-Jacques d'Ortous de Mairan in the Histoire de l'Académie royale des sciences in 1742 Biography Boulduc was the son of (1652-1729), apothecary and chemistry demonstrator at the French Academy of Sciences, Royal Academy of Sciences. Antoine de Saint-Yon was a French physician and chemist of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Étienne François Geoffroy
Étienne François Geoffroy (13 February 16726 January 1731) was a French physician and chemist, best known for his 1718 affinity tables. He first contemplated a career as an apothecary, but then decided to practice medicine. He is sometimes known as ''Geoffroy the Elder''. Biography Geoffroy was born in Paris. After studying at Montpellier he accompanied Marshal Tallard on his embassy to London in 1698 and thence travelled to the Netherlands and Italy. Returning to Paris he became professor of chemistry at the Jardin du Roi and of pharmacy and medicine at the Collège Royal, and dean of the faculty of medicine. He died in Paris on 6 January 1731.
