Gut Records
Gut Records was a British independent record label, based in Maida Vale in London, England. Formed in 1991, Gut was founded by Guy Holmes, who had been Head of Promotions at Island Records. The first single released on the label, Right Said Fred's song, " I'm Too Sexy", became a worldwide hit. In August 2008, the company went bankrupt and its assets sold to Phoenix Music International Ltd. The Egg (band)
The Egg are a British electronic dance music band, consisting of Ned Scott (keyboards), Maff Scott (drums), Paul Marshall (bass) and Matt White (lead guitar). History Founded in the early 1990s in Oxford, England, the Egg released its first EP ''Shopping'' (1995) on the independent record label, Cup of Tea Records. Having been signed by China Records, in 1996 the band released the album ''Albumen'' in the United States on Discovery Records in 1997. In 1998, the follow-up album, ''Travelator'', was released, produced by Tim Holmes of Death in Vegas. In 2000, the group recorded the theme tune to the ITV series, ''At Home with the Braithwaites''. Following ''Travelator'', the Egg began exploring the new directions. Following their ''Mellowmania EP'' in 2002, they were signed by Bar de Lune Records, a subsidiary of Beechwood Music. Uniting Nations
Uniting Nations are a British dance music act formed in Liverpool in 2004. They achieved chart success across Europe. The act was originally made up of Paul Keenan and Daz Sampson as band members, songwriters and producers. After their 2005 hit " Out of Touch", which was the debut and most successful single of the band, Craig Powell joined in as frontman of the band. A number of songs on the Uniting Nations' debut and only album '' One World'', released in 2005 on Gut Records, were also performed by vocalist and session artist Jinian Wilde. The band had chart success with two initial UK hits, "Out of Touch" and " You and Me". The band's third hit, "Ai No Corrida", a remake of the 1980 song by British musician Chaz Jankel (which was covered by American producer Quincy Jones on his 1981 album '' The Dude''), featured the vocals of British singer and dancer Laura More. Tears For Fears
Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in Bath, England, in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, Tears for Fears were associated with the new wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s, and attained international chart success. The band's debut album, '' The Hurting'' (1983), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and their first three hit singles – "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" – all reached the top five in the UK Singles Chart. Stan ( gr, Στράτος Αντιπαριώτης, born Stratos Antipariotis on August 1, 1987 in Athens, Greece), is a Greek singer, songwriter and fashion model. Early career Stratos, better known in Greece by his stage name "Stan", is a Greek young artist. Coming from the island of Paros, where he grew up, he took his first steps as a professional in the music industry in December 2009 writing the lyrics for the debut album of the Greek group Vegas for the song “Giati”. Sparks (band)
Sparks is an American pop and rock duo formed by brothers Ron (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals) in Los Angeles. The duo is noted for their quirky approach to songwriting; their music is often accompanied by sophisticated and acerbic lyrics—often about women, and sometimes containing literary or cinematic references-- and an idiosyncratic, theatrical stage presence, typified by the contrast between Russell's animated, hyperactive frontman antics and Ron's deadpan scowling. Space (English Band)
Space are a band from Liverpool, England, who formed in 1992 initially as a trio of Tommy Scott (vocals, bass, guitar), Jamie Murphy (vocals, guitar) and Jamie Island (drums), who was later replaced by Andy Parle. Keyboard player Franny Griffiths joined the line-up a year later, and the band signed to Gut Records in 1995, eventually rising to prominence with hit singles such as "Female of the Species", " Me and You Versus the World", "Neighbourhood", " Avenging Angels" and " The Ballad of Tom Jones", the latter a duet with Cerys Matthews of Catatonia. Jimmy Somerville
James William Somerville (born 22 June 1961) is a Scottish pop singer and songwriter. He sang in the 1980s with the pop groups Bronski Beat and The Communards, and has also had a solo career. He is known in particular for his powerful and soulful countertenor/falsetto singing voice. Many of his songs, such as " Smalltown Boy", contain political commentary on gay-related issues. Josh Abrahams (born 1968 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) is an Australian musician who emerged from the underground dance music scene in the early 1990s. He has performed and recorded under the stage name Puretone, and is also known as The Pagan and Bassliners. Pulse (UK Band)
Pulse were the winners of the BBC reality show, '' Dance X''. Readers of '' The Sun'' newspaper chose the band's name. They signed a recording contract with Gut Records, and released their first single, "Dancing in Repeat", (written by Oscar Görres and Swedish popstar Danny Saucedo) as a digital download in August 2007, and as a CD single the following month. It debuted in the UK Singles Chart on 15 September 2007 at #91. During 2007 they supported Rihanna in the UK leg of her tour.
