Gustav Dietrichson
Gustav Johan Fredrik Dietrichson (8 April 1855 – 19 March 1922) was a Norwegian theologian and priest. He served as bishop of both the Diocese of Hålogaland and the Diocese of Hamar. Dietrichson was born in the state of Wisconsin. His parents, Gustav Fredrik Dietrichson (1813–1886) and Pauline Christine Sørine Alette Henriette Preus (1819–1900) were Norwegian immigrant to the United States. He came for a clerical family. His maternal uncle, Adolph Carl Preus (1814–1878), had immigrant from Norway in 1850. Preus served as the first President of the Norwegian Synod prior to returning to Norway in 1870 where he served as vicar of Tvedestrand and Holt in Aust-Agder until his death. Dietrichson himself moved to Norway where he received his Cand.theol. degree from the University of Oslo in 1878. Holt, Aust-Agder
Holt is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960 when it was merged into the present-day municipality of Tvedestrand which is now in Agder county. The administrative centre of Holt was located just south of the village of Fiane where Holt Church is located. Holt Church probably dates from the twelfth century and has an ancient baptismal font. The interior was decorated by Torsten Hoff. The Nordkalottruta trail runs through the Holt area in Tvedestrand. History The parish of Holt was established as a civil municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). According to the 1835 census, the municipality had a population of 3,116. Otto Jensen (bishop)
Otto Jensen (11 September 1856 – 26 February 1918) was a Norwegian bishop and politician. He was Minister of Education and Church Affairs from 1906 to 1907 and bishop of Hamar from 1917 to 1918. He was born in Kongsberg as the son of sexton Even Jensen and his wife Inger Margrethe Berggrav. He enrolled as a student in 1874, and graduated in 1879 with the degree cand.theol. In 1880 he was hired as a school teacher in Kristiania. He left the city to become a high school teacher in Stavanger in 1883. From 1889 to 1899 he was a curate in Berg i Smaalenene; he subsequently returned to Stavanger to hold the same position there. In 1898 he had taken the doctorate at the University of Kristiania. In 1906, Jensen left Stavanger for good as he was hired as a vicar in Skjeberg. However, already on 27 January the same year he was Norwegian Minister of Education and Church Affairs, replacing Christoffer Knudsen in the cabinet Michelsen.
