Gunnel (fish)
''Pholidae'' is a family of marine ray-finned fishes, known as gunnels, in the scorpaeniform suborder Zoarcoidei. These are fishes of the littoral zone and are mainly found in North Pacific Ocean, with two species found in the North Atlantic Ocean and Arctic Ocean. Taxonomy Pholidae was first put forward as a family in 1893 by the American zoologist Theodore Gill. The 5th edition of ''Fishes of the World'' classifies this family within the suborder Zoarcoidei, within the order Scorpaeniformes. Other authorities classify this family in the infraorder Zoarcales wihin the suborder Cottoidei of the Perciformes because removing the Scorpaeniformes from the Perciformes renders that taxon non monophyletic. The gunwale () is the top edge of the hull of a ship or boat. Originally the structure was the "gun wale" on a sailing warship, a horizontal reinforcing band added at and above the level of a gun deck to offset the stresses created by firing artillery. Over time it remained as a valuable stiffener mounted inboard of the sheer strake on commercial and recreational craft. Gunnel Channel () is a channel, wide and long, situated in the south part of Hanusse Bay and separating Hansen Island from the west coast of Graham Land, Antarctica. It was first observed from the air and roughly charted in 1936 by the British Graham Land Expedition under John Rymill. It was surveyed from the ground in 1948 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey which gave this descriptive name. Gunnel Margareta André (born August 6, 1946 in Örebro, Sweden) is a Swedish theologian, an ordained Lutheran minister in the Church of Sweden and an author. Biography After studying theology, psychology and music at North Park University, Chicago, she continued her studies in 1968 at the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Uppsala, Sweden and the Swedish Theological Institute in Jerusalem, Israel. In 1980 she received a PhD degree (Doctor of Theology, Faculty of Theology) in Biblical criticism, Old Testament Exegesis, and became an Assistant Professor. Gunnel André was one of the founders of the Student Union for students of religious studies and later of the Union of PhD students, of which she soon became president. Gunnel Gummeson (born 1930, declared death in absentia, declared dead ''in absentia'' 8 February 1977), was a Sweden, Swedish school teacher, last seen travelling in northern Afghanistan with her United States, American fiancé Peter Winant in 1956. The extensive investigations were hampered by official corruption and codes of loyalty to clan chiefs. None of the later sightings were confirmed, and the case of their disappearance has never been solved.
