Gunnar Stubseid
Gunnar Stubseid (23 January 1948 – June 2024) was a Norwegian educator, ethnologist, folk musician, writer and magazine editor. Background Born in Bygland on 23 January 1948, Stubseid was educated at the Bergen Teacher Training College, and as ethnologist from the University of Bergen. Stubseid died in June 2024, at the age of 76. Musical career Playing the Hardanger fiddle, Stubseid played with the musical group , along with Kirsten Bråten Berg, and . The group published two albums, one of which was awarded the Spellemannprisen in 1979. He published the album in 2008. He edited the magazine from 1978 to 1988. His books include (1980), , and . He also co-wrote , and wrote a biography of folk musician Sigbjørn Bernhoft Osa in 2003. Bygland
Bygland is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Setesdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bygland. Other villages in the municipality include Åraksbø, Austad, Byglandsfjord, Grendi, Langeid, Lauvdal, Litveit, Longerak, Moi, Ose, Sandnes, Skåmedal, and Tveit. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs through the municipality, following the river Otra where most of the population of Bygland lives. Bergen Teacher Training College ( no, Bergen lærerhøgskole) was a tertiary education institution for training teachers in Bergen, Norway. The school was established in 1953 under the name ''Statens lærerskoleklasser i Bergen'' (Bergen State Teacher Training School). The school was renamed ''Bergen offentlige lærerskole'' (Bergen Public Teacher Training School) in 1962. In 1965, the school acquired its own premises in Landås. Sigbjørn Bernhoft Osa
Sigbjørn Bernhoft Osa (3 May 1910 2 February 1990) was a Norwegian fiddler and traditional folk musician. He was one of the best known Norwegian performers of folk music in the 1900s. Personal life Osa was born in Ulvik, Hardanger as the son of fiddler and painter Lars Osa and children's writer Hermine Bernhoft-Osa. He spent his first years in Valle, Setesdal, and moved to Voss when he was six years old. He was married to Kersti Alice Grambo from 1937, and to Anne Heggtveit from 1950. He was the father of actress Liv Bernhoft Osa (b. 1957). He died in Voss in 1990. Career Osa's father was a skilled violin and Hardingfele player, and the boy started to play both instruments. He studied violin with Bjarne Brustad in Oslo, then in Bergen with the academy of Musikselskabet Harmoniens orkester from 1929 to 1930, and in Berlin from 1931 to 1932. Kirsten Bråten Berg
Kirsten Marie Bråten Berg (born 7 January 1950 in Arendal, Norway) is a Norwegian traditional folk singer, silversmith and government scholar. She is currently living in Valle in the Setesdal area of southern Norway. She trained as a silversmith at the Torleiv H. Bjørgums Vocational College (''Oslo Yrkesskole an Torleiv H. Bjørgums'') in Setesdal and then set up her own workshop there, in Nomeland. She began singing traditional Norwegian folk songs in the 1970s and since the late 1970s has given concerts and made recordings, winnin''Spellemannprisen''awards (the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy award) in 1979 and 1988. She met the bass player Arild Andersen in 1990 and became a member of his group in 1992.
