Gunnar Eyjólfsson
Gunnar Eyjólfsson (24 February 1926 - 21 November 2016) was an Icelandic actor. Gunnar began his career with the Reykjavík Theatre Company in 1945. In 1961, he joined the National Theatre of Iceland; in 1963 he won the Silver Lamp Award for the best theatrical performance of the year for the title role in ''Pétur Gautur''. He was also the first foreign recipient of the RADA Shakespeare Award. He also appeared in many films. He won the 2002 Edda Award for Best Leading Actor for his performance as Thórður in '' The Sea''. In 1999, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon. Personal life Gunnar was born in Keflavík. Keflavík
Keflavík (pronounced , meaning ''Driftwood Bay'') is a town in the Reykjanes region in southwest Iceland. It is included in the municipality of Reykjanesbær whose population as of 2016 is 15,129. In 1995, Keflavik merged with nearby Njarðvík and Hafnir to form the municipality of Reykjanesbær. Order Of The Falcon
The Order of the Falcon ( is, Hin íslenska fálkaorða) is the only order of chivalry in Iceland, founded by King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland on 3 July 1921. The award is awarded for merit for Iceland and humanity and has five degrees. Nowadays, appointments are made on the nomination of the President of Iceland and that of a "five-member council." History and appointments Christian X, the King of Denmark, ruled Iceland until 17 June 1944. During his royal visit to Iceland in 1921, King Christian X issued the royal decree founding the Icelandic Order of the Falcon. The Viking Sagas
''The Viking Sagas'' is a 1995 American film directed by Michael Chapman and starring Ralf Möller and Sven-Ole Thorsen. It is heavily inspired by the ''Njáls saga'', through it features an original plot. It was largely shot on Iceland with a mostly Icelandic cast. Plot The story takes place in Iceland around the height of the Viking Age, where a young man, Kjartan ( Ralf Möller), must defeat a horde of evil Vikings, intent on taking over his father's land and stealing his girlfriend Gudrun ( Ingibjörg Stefánsdóttir) from him too. Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir (born 4 October 1965) is an Icelandic politician, who has been chairman of the Reform Party since 2017. Þorgerður was deputy chairwoman of the Independence Party from 2005 to 2010. She was the Minister of Education, Science and Culture from 31 December 2003 to 1 February 2009. After the Icelandic economic crash in 2008, Þorgerður was ''de facto'' leader of the government in Geir Haarde's absence owing to Geir having been diagnosed with cancer. She left the Independence Party in 2016 and joined the newly founded Reform Party and became its chairman the following year. She was Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture in 2017.
