Manuel Silos
Manuel Silos (1 January 1906 – 31 March 1988) was an award-winning Filipino film-maker from the 1920s through the 1950s. He began his career by making silent movies together with his brothers. As a ''bodabil'' (vaudeville) actor and comedian, Silos used the stage and screen name Santo Tulia. He appeared in romantic-comedy films such as ''Victory Joe'' in 1946, ''Puppy Love'' in 1956, and '' Tuloy and Ligaya'' (literally "Bliss Continues") in 1958. He became known for his FAMAS-awarded film ''Biyaya ng Lupa'' ("Blessings of the Land"). In 1979, Silos received the Natatanging Gawad Urian. Bernardo “Narding” Anzures (1928–1949) was a Filipino film actor and convicted murderer. The son of actors Miguel Anzures and Rosa Aguirre, Anzures had starred in pre–World War II films as a child actor under Sampaguita Pictures & LVN Pictures. After the war, he was paired with Lilian Velez in three films produced by Filippine Films & Philippine Pictures Inc., such as ''Binibiro Lamang Kita'', ''Ang Estudyante'', and ''Sa Kabukiran'' which was directed by Velez's husband, Jose Climaco. In 1948, LVN Pictures decided to cast Jaime de la Rosa as Velez's leading man in her next picture. Adelaida Fernando-Villegas (born Adelaida Marquez Fernando; March 17, 1914 – August 30, 2004), better known as Dely Atay-Atayan or Adelaida Fernando, was a Filipina comedian and singer. Her career in entertainment spanned seven decades, beginning in bodabil and ending in television. Biography Atay-Atayan was born in Tondo, Manila. One of her younger brothers, Ading Fernando, would grow up to be a prominent television comedian and director. Sampaguita Pictures was a Philippine film production company. It was named for the Philippine national flower, sampaguita. Though no longer functioning, the company's Sampaguita Compound remains in Quezon City. History Sampaguita Pictures was established in the last quarter of 1937. Its first feature-length film was ''Bituing Marikit'', starring Elsa Oria and Rogelio dela Rosa. It was a box-office hit. The company continued to make films in the action, musical, horror and suspense genres.
