GUN Records
GUN Records (''Great Unlimited Noises'') was a record label located in Bochum, Germany, founded in 1992 by Bogdan Kopec ( DRAKKAR Promotion Musikverlag GmbH) and Wolfgang Funk. Different artists on the label have had hit singles as well as albums in Europe. A branch of the label known as Supersonic Records existed until 2005, when GUN's parent company BMG merged with Sony. In 2009, GUN Records announced they were closing. Donots
The Donots are a German punk rock band from Germany, formed in 1993 in Ibbenbüren. Band history Early years (1993-1998) The Donots were founded in 1993 by Ingo Knollmann on lead vocals, his brother Guido Knollmann on guitar, Jan-Dirk Poggemann on bass, Jens "Stone" Grimstein on guitar and Jens Trippner on drums. They celebrated their stage debut on April 16, 1994 at the Scheune in their hometown Ibbenbüren. They began playing as a support band in local venues and released the demo tapes ''We Do Not Care So Why Should You?'' and ''Mellow D's and Harm on E's'' in 1994 and 1995, respectively. Drummer Jens Trippner was replaced by Eike Herwig in 1995. In 1996, the band released their debut album ''Pedigree Punk'' via independent label Headshock Records and shortly afterwards, Alex Siedenbiedel replaced Stone Grimstein on guitar, finalizing the current line-up. Doctor Butcher (album)
Doctor Butcher was a side project involving Jon Oliva and Chris Caffery of Savatage which released one major self-titled studio album in 1994. The original album title, ''A Living Hell'', was changed at the last minute. The project was born when Oliva left Savatage at the conclusion of their 1991 tour in support of their album '' Streets: A Rock Opera''. Caffery was invited to play with the band on tour, like he did in the support of their 1989 album ''Gutter Ballet'', but this was not possible because of issues within Atlantic Records. After Caffery heard of Oliva's departure from the fore of the band, he called him, and "over ten bottles of Jack Daniels", Doctor Butcher was born. Zachary Stevens replaced Oliva as lead vocalist for Savatage in 1993, but Jon continued to work with his brother Criss on the record which would eventually become ''Edge of Thorns''. Depressive Age
Depressive Age is a German thrash metal band from Berlin. The group released four studio albums throughout the 1990s before renaming themselves D-Age and disbanding in 2001. History Depressive Age was founded under the name Blackout in 1984, with the band releasing one demo before changing their name to Depressive Age in 1988. The group released their first studio album, ''First Depression'', in 1992. ''First Depression'' was followed by the albums ''Lying in Wait'' (1993), ''Symbols for the Blue Times'' (1994) and ''Electric Scum'' in 1996, the latter two of which showcased less thrash metal influences and included forays into alternative rock. ''Freaky Styley'' is the second studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released August 16, 1985 on EMI America. ''Freaky Styley'' marks founding guitarist Hillel Slovak's studio album debut, following his return to the band earlier in the year. The album is the last to feature drummer Cliff Martinez. ''Freaky Styley'' was produced by George Clinton, of Parliament-Funkadelic, and the sessions benefitted from Clinton's chemistry with the band but suffered from the band's drug use during recording. The music on the record draws influence from funk, punk rock, and psychedelic rock, while the lyrical content was inspired by the band members' lives in Hollywood. Within Temptation
Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. They have been classified by critics as gothic metal and symphonic metal, although each album contains other influences outside these genres. Their most prominent and well-known sound is described as symphonic metal, although their earlier material, such as debut album ''Enter'', was mostly gothic metal,Sharpe-Young, "Metal: The Definitive Guide" (2007), p. 294 with ''Enter'' also having a hint of doom metal. Van Canto
Van Canto (sometimes stylized as van Canto) is a German a cappella metal band, founded in 2006 and composed of six singers and a drummer. Although the group is often classified as an a cappella ensemble, they use real drums in their music, instead of vocal percussion or beatboxing. Van Canto play a cappella with classic heavy, power and symphonic metal influence, creating what they call "hero metal a cappella". While only two of the six singers perform the lead vocals, the other four instead use their voices to imitate the guitars and the bass, with the help of amplifiers, in an attempt to sound closer to the original instruments. Sturm Und Drang (Band)
Sturm und Drang was a Finnish heavy metal/hard rock band from Vaasa formed in 2004. The band's original members were lead singer/guitarist André Linman, guitarist/backing vocals Alexander Ivars, keyboardist Jesper Welroos, bassist/backing vocalist Henrik Kurkiala and drummer/backing vocalist Calle Fahllund. Other members were bassist Joel Wendlin (joined 2010) and guitarist Jani Kuoppamaa (joined 2011). The band started off as schoolmates covering bands such as Judas Priest and gradually started writing their own material. They were discovered in 2005 by record label HMC. Oomph!
Oomph! is a German rock band from Wolfsburg, formed in 1989. The band pioneered the Neue Deutsche Härte movement. Their work contains lyrics in both English and German, with a shift towards German exclusively on recent albums ('' GlaubeLiebeTod'', ''Monster'', '' Des Wahnsinns fette Beute'', '' XXV'', and ''Ritual'' are entirely in German). Lovex
Lovex is a rock band from Tampere, Finland. History Lovex started officially in 2001–2002, when several musicians who had previously played in other bands, decided to start their own band to play rock music and have fun. By 2004 they had written and recorded a number of songs, and then received a record deal with EMI Finland. August 2005 saw the release of their first hit, "Bleeding". Their second single, "Guardian Angel" was released in January 2006 and became a huge hit in Finland. The band's first album, '' Divine Insanity'', was also released in March 2006. In Germany, Switzerland and Austria, the single Guardian Angel was released on 5 January 2007, and album was released on 16 February 2007. Lovex released their album in Japan on 17 September 2007. Lordi
Lordi () is a Finnish hard rock/ heavy metal band, formed in 1992 by the band's lead singer, songwriter and costume maker, Mr Lordi (Tomi Petteri Putaansuu). In addition to their melodic metal music, Lordi are also known for wearing monster masks and using horror elements with pyrotechnics during concerts and music videos. The band rose to fame in 2002 with their hit single "Would You Love a Monsterman?", and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with their song " Hard Rock Hallelujah". Lordi has toured and recorded actively since 2002, and Mr Lordi upgrades the band's costumes and masks for each album. L'Âme Immortelle
L'Âme Immortelle (French for "the immortal soul") is an Austrian darkwave duo. Many of L'Âme Immortelle's songs feature melancholy or lovelorn lyrics in German or English, and juxtaposed harsh male and emotional female vocals. In 2004 they switched label to the now defunct Supersonic Records (a subsidiary of Sony BMG) and their work moved away from the band's electronic roots to the heavier Neue Deutsche Härte (''New German hardness'') genre. In 2008 they went back to their former label Trisol and they returned to their musical roots.
