Gulgong Railway Station
Gulgong railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station on the Gwabegar railway line at Gulgong, Mid-Western Regional Council, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The Gulgong railway station opened on 14 April 1909 with the extension of the railway from Mudgee to Gulgong. The rail passenger service to Gulgong ceased on 2 December 1985 and freight services connecting Gulgong and Kandos on the Gwabegar line ceased in 1992. The freight-only Sandy Hollow–Gulgong railway line still operates through Gulgong, connecting to a section of the Gwabegar line beyond Gulgong that still handles freight services. The station building is now leased to the Mid-Western Regional Council. Gulgong, New South Wales
Gulgong is a 19th-century gold rush town in the Central Tablelands and the wider Central West regions of the Australian state of New South Wales. The town is situated within the Mid-Western Regional Council local government area. It is located about north west of Sydney, and about 30 km north of Mudgee along the Castlereagh Highway. At the 2016 Census, Gulgong had a population of 2,521. Today, much of the 19th-century character of the town remains, contributing to its appeal as a tourist destination. Of special interest is the Prince of Wales Opera House, a survivor with a rich history. An attraction of note is the ''Gulgong Pioneer Museum'', which has a huge collection of thematically-displayed exhibits, ranging from kitchen utensils to complete buildings that have been relocated to a "street" on the site. Mid-Western Regional Council
The Mid-Western Regional Council is a local government area in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is located adjacent to the Castlereagh Highway that passes through the middle of the area in an approximate southeast–northwest direction. Mid-Western Regional Council was proclaimed on 26 May 2004 and incorporates the whole of the former Mudgee Shire Council and parts of the former Merriwa and Rylstone Shires. The Mid-Western Regional Council also incorporated the area of the historic Wyaldra Shire, which was abolished in an earlier round of local government amalgamations. A historic building in Gulgong, built in 1910, served as the former shire headquarters. The mayor of Mid-Western Regional Council is Cr. Des Kennedy, who is unaligned with any political party.
