Gujarat State Electricity Corporation
Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVN), which came into existence in August 1993 after the unbundling of the GEB. It is a power generation company working in the territory of Gujarat, India. It delivers electricity through four distribution companies – DGVCL, MGVCL, PGVCL and UGVCL. Profile Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited was incorporated in August 1993 with the objectives to mobilize resources from the market for adding to the generating capacity of Gujarat and improving the quality and cost of existing generation. Canal Solar Power Project
The Canal Solar Power Project is a solar canal project launched in Gujarat, India, to use the long network of Narmada canals across the state for setting up solar panels to generate electricity. It was the first ever such project in India. This project has been commissioned by SunEdison India. Inauguration of pilot project Narendra Modi, then Chief Minister of Gujarat, inaugurated a 1 Megawatt (MW) pilot project on 24 April 2012. The project is situated on the Narmada branch canal near Chandrasan village of Kadi taluka in Mehsana district. The pilot project will generate 1 MW of clean energy and also prevent evaporation of of water annually from the canal. Kadana Dam
Kadana Dam is an earthen and masonry on the Mahi River in Mahisagar district of Gujarat, India. The dam was constructed between 1979 and 1990. The dams a pumped-storage hydroelectric power-station. The first two generators were commissioned in 1990, the second two in 1998. The first two generators commissioned, Stage I, are reversible kaplan turbines that allow the power station to generate during peak hours then pump back into the reservoir during low hours such as night. Ukai Dam
The Ukai Dam, constructed across the Tapi River, is the second largest reservoir in Gujarat after the Sardar Sarovar. It is also known as Vallabh Sagar. Constructed in 1972, the dam is meant for irrigation, power generation and flood control. Having a catchment area of about 62,255 km2 and a water spread of about 52,000 hectares, its capacity is almost same as that of the Bhakra Nangal Dam. The site is located 94 km from Surat. The dam is an earth-cum-masonry dam. Its embankment wall is 4,927 m long. Its earth dam is 105.156 meters high, whereas the masonry dam is 68.68 meters high. The dam's left bank canal feeds water to an area of 1,522 km2. and its right canal provides water to 2,275 km2 of land. A fort built by the Gaekwad dynasty of Baroda was submerged in the reservoir.
