Gujarat Sahitya Sabha
Gujarat Sahitya Sabha, originally called the Social and Literary Association is a literary institution for the promotion of Gujarati literature located in the city of Ahmedabad, India. It was founded by Ranjitram Vavabhai Mehta in 1898. Its name was later changed in 1905. The main aim of the association is to celebrate the birth anniversaries of great Gujarati littérateurs, publishing and releasing books and also preserving manuscripts. The Gujarat Sahitya Sabha also gives an award called the Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak since 1928 and is considered as the highest literary honour of the state of Gujarat. Gujarati Literature
The history of Gujarati literature ( gu, ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય) may be traced to 1000 AD, and this literature has flourished since then to the present. It is unique in having almost no patronage from a ruling dynasty, other than its composers. Anantrai Raval
Anantrai Manishankar Raval (1 January 1912 – 18 November 1988) was a Gujarati critic and editor from India. Born and studied in Amreli, he worked briefly with a daily. He taught at several colleges before joining government as a director of language department. He wrote criticism chiefly under the pen name ''Shaunak'' and edited several works of Gujarati literature and litterateurs. Life Raval was born on 1 January 1912 at Amreli in Gujarat. He was a native of Vallabhipur. He completed his primary and secondary education from Amreli. He passed matriculation in 1928. He completed Bachelor of Arts in Gujarati and Sanskrit from Samaldas College, Bhavnagar and was a fellow of same college for two years. He completed Master of Arts with Gujarati and English in 1934 and was the first student in the University of Bombay to pass it with first class. The Gujarat Sahitya Akademi ( gu, ગુજરાત સાહિત્ય અકાદમી) or Gujarat Sahitya Academy, established in 1981, is a government institution dedicated to the development of the languages spoken in Gujarat, India and their literature. Gujarat Vidhya Sabha
Gujarat Vidya Sabha, originally called Gujarat Vernacular Society, is a literary institution for the promotion of vernacular Gujarati literature and education, and for the collection of manuscripts and printed books; located in the city of Ahmedabad, India. It was founded by a British administrator, Alexander Kinloch Forbes, in 1848 with the Gujarati author Dalpatram. The name was changed on the occasion of the centenary of the institution. It published Gujarat's first newspaper, established the first Gujarati school for girls, the first library and the first Gujarati periodical. History Gujarat Vernacular Society was founded by British East India Company administrator, Alexander Kinloch Forbes on 26 December 1848 along with Dalpatram. Gujarati Sahitya Parishad
Gujarati Sahitya Parishad () is a literary organisation for the promotion of Gujarati literature located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It was founded by Ranjitram Mehta with the aim of creating literature appealing to all classes of society and cultivating a literary sense among the people. Many prominent people including Mahatma Gandhi and Kanaiyalal Munshi have presided over the organisation. Its headquarters, located on Ashram Road, is known as Govardhan Bhavan. It has a conference hall and library. ''Parab'' is the monthly magazine of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and is published on the 10th of every month. Yogesh Joshi (poet)
Yogesh Joshi (Gujarati: યોગેશ જોશી) is a Gujarati language poet, short story writer, novelist, and editor from Gujarat, India. He is an editor of Parab, a publication of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. His significant works include ''Avaajnu Ajavalu'' (1984; Collection of poems), ''Samudi'' (1984; Novel), ''Motiba'' (1998; Biography) and ''Adhakhuli Baari'' (2001; Collection of Short stories). He was awarded the Narmad Suvarna Chandrak award for his book ''Motiba''. Early life Joshi was born on 3 July 1955 in Mahesana, Gujarat to Bhanuprasad Joshi and Anilabahen Joshi. Chunilal Shah
Chunilal Vardhman Shah (1887–1966) was a Gujarati novelist and journalist from Gujarat, India. He was awarded the Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1937. Biography Shah was born in 1887 in Wadhwan, Saurastra, British India. After passing his matriculation exams in 1903, he worked as a school teacher before becoming a journalist in ''Sanj Vartaman''. He subsequently worked for ''Rajasthan'' and ''Jainoday'' as sub-editor and editor, respectively. In 1909, he joined ''Prajabandhu'' and continued working there till it became defunct in 1953. Through his articles in ''Prajabandhu'', he gave a new direction to Gujarati journalism by providing more serious and thought provoking editorials. Gaurishankar Govardhanram Joshi
Gaurishankar Govardhanram Joshi (1892–1965), better known by his pen name Dhumaketu, was an Indian Gujarati-language writer, who is considered one of the pioneers of the Gujarati short story. He published twenty-four collections of short stories, as well as thirty-two novels on social and historical subjects, and plays and travelogues. His writing is characterised by a dramatic style, romanticism and powerful depiction of human emotions. Early life Gaurishankar was the third son of Govardhanram Joshi and was a Baj Khedawal Brahmin by birth. He was born on 12 December 1892 at Virpur, a place near Rajkot and Gondal (now in Gujarat, India). Gaurishankar served at Virpur School drawing a salary of four Rupees per month. Kumarpal Desai
Kumarpal Balabhai Desai is an author, critic, editor, journalist, columnist and translator from Gujarat, India. He studied and later taught at the Gujarat University. He is associated with several social and Gujarati literary organisations such as Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. Keshavram Kashiram Shastri
Keshavram Kashiram Bambhaniya also known as k.k.shastri born on 28 July 1905 at Mangarol in Junagadh district, Bombay Presidency. He was the founding leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
