The Gujarat Giants are an Indian women's cricket team that compete in the Women's Premier League (WPL), based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The team is owned by Adani Group. The team is coached by Rachael Haynes, and their squad was assembled at the inaugural WPL player auction in February 2023. The tournament was named the Women's Premier League in January 2023, with investors buying the rights to franchises through a closed bidding process during the same month. Adani Group, the owners of the Gujarat Giants kabaddi team, bought the rights to one of the franchises. On 30 January 2023, Mithali Raj joined Gujarat Giants as a mentor. Women's Premier League (cricket)
The Women's Premier League (WPL) also known as TATA WPL due to sponsorship reasons, is an upcoming women's Twenty20 cricket franchise league in India. It is owned and operated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The first season will be played in March 2023 in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with five franchises taking part. History The first major women's Twenty20 competition in India was the Women's T20 Challenge. This started as a single-match tournament in 2018, and was expanded to a three-team, three-match competition held in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Deandra Jalisa Shakira Dottin (born 21 June 1991) is a Barbadian cricketer and former track and field athlete. Mansi Joshi (born 18 August 1993) is an Indian international cricketer who made her debut for the Indian national team in November 2016. She is a right-arm medium-fast bowler. The Ireland women's cricket team represents Ireland in international women's cricket.
