Guitar Foundation Of America
The Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) is an American classical guitar nonprofit organization that was founded in 1973 at the National Guitar Convention sponsored by the American String Teachers Association. The foundation offers various services ranging from guitar lessons to a guitar shop, competitions, and events. The foundation relies on donations, events, and advertising on its web site for funding. The foundation publishes ''Soundboard Scholar'', a peer-reviewed journal, and ''Prodigies'', a magazine for children. History In 1968 the foundation's founder, Thomas Heck, was living in Vienna, Austria, collecting rare sheet music for guitar. His collection included first editions by Mauro Giuliani. In 1973, Heck wrote the foundations' articles of incorporation in Santa Barbara, California, creating a non-profit foundation to which he could give his archive of sheet music. A 501(c) organization is a nonprofit organization in the Law of the United States#Federal law, federal law of the United States according to Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. § 501(c)) and is one of over 29 types of nonprofit organizations exempt from some Taxation in the United States, federal Income tax in the United States, income taxes. Life Born in the 17th arrondissement of Paris in a family of musicians, he started playing the guitar at the age of 5 with his father. He entered the Conservatoire de Paris in 1997. At the age of 12, he recorded on the Mezzo TV, mezzo channel for the "Musiciens en herbe" program. In 2002, he participated in a play with the ''Théâtre fragile'' company. Marcin Dylla is a Polish classical guitarist who has won over fifteen international classical guitar competitions. He was born in Chorzów, Poland, and took lessons at the Ruda Śląska Music High School, attended the Academy of Music in Katowice, and academies in Basel, Freiburg, and Maastricht. Thomas Viloteau (born 1985) is a French classical guitarist. Life and career Viloteau began his studies at the age of 12 in Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône in southern France. From 1998, Viloteau continued his studies at the Escuela de Música Juan Pedro Carrero in Barcelona, Spain. Here he studied under Maité Rubio while taking additional master classes with Álvaro Pierri. Jérémy Jouve (born 7 August 1979) is a French classical guitarist. He was one of six Frenchmen to win the Guitar Foundation of America International competition. Biography Born in Échirolles (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), Jouve started playing guitar at the age of 7. A student at the National School of Music in Chambéry, he attended Daniel Herbelot's classes from 1987 to 1992.
