Guillermo Capadocia
Guillermo Capadocia (1909-1951) was a Filipino communist politician and labour leader. He was a prominent leader of the Communist Party in the Philippines (PKP) and different labour movements. During the last one and a half years of his life he was a regional guerrilla commander of the Hukbalahap. Early life Capadocia was born in Negros Oriental, the son of a poor labourer. Capadocia himself survived through various employments, such as working as a chef and waiter. He became active in trade unions in the 1920s. Despite lacking a formal education, Capadocia became highly literate and gained a deep knowledge of Marxist-Leninist thought. Negros Oriental
Negros Oriental ( ceb, Sidlakang Negros; tl, Silangang Negros), officially the Province of Negros Oriental, is a province in the Philippines located in the Central Visayas region. Its capital is the city of Dumaguete. It occupies the southeastern half of the large island of Negros, and borders Negros Occidental, which comprises the northwestern half. It also includes Apo Island, a popular dive site for both local and foreign tourists. Collective Labor Movement
The Collective Labor Movement (abbreviated CLM) was a trade union centre in the Philippines. The CLM was founded in and consisted of 76 radical and liberal trade unions. Kurihara, Kenneth K. CLM was the largest labour organization in the country in the years in the run-up to the Second World War. Fort Santiago
Fort Santiago ( es, Fuerte de Santiago; fil, Kutà ng Santiago), built in 1571, is a citadel built by Spanish navigator and governor Miguel López de Legazpi for the newly established city of Manila in the Philippines. The defense fortress is located in Intramuros, the walled city of Manila. The fort is one of the most important historical sites in Manila. Several people died in its prisons during the Spanish Empire and World War II. José Rizal, one of the Philippine national heroes, was imprisoned here before his execution in 1896. The Rizal Shrine museum displays memorabilia of the hero in their collection and the fort features, embedded onto the ground in bronze, his footsteps representing his final walk from his cell to the location of the actual execution. Crisanto Evangelista
Crisanto Abaño Evangelista (November 1, 1888 – June 2, 1942) was a Filipinos, Filipino Communism, communist politician and labor leader of the first half of the 20th century. He is credited as being one of the founders of the Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas-1930, Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas. Evangelista was also an influential head of the Congreso Obrero de Filipinas, at the time the foremost and largest trade federation in the Philippines, having served as secretary for multiple years. He also headed the Union de Impresores de Filipinas as its Secretary-General. Prior to forming the PKP, Evangelista was a member of the Partido Obrero de Filipinas, a Filipino workers' party with increasingly radical leanings. Evangelista was eventually captured by the Japanese during the Second World War and executed. Pedro Abad Santos
Pedro Abad Santos y Basco (, ; 31 January 1876 – 15 January 1945) was a Filipinos, Filipino Marxism, Marxist politician. He founded the Partido Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PSP) or Philippine Socialist Party in 1929. He ran for several local elections but never won. Luis Taruc of the Hukbalahap Rebellion was under his tutelage and was his right-hand man. Katipunan Ng Mga Anak-Pawis Sa Pilipinas
The ''Katipunan ng mga Anak-Pawis sa Pilipinas (KAP)'' (Tagalog, Proletarian Labor Congress of the Philippines) was the third trade union federation in the Philippines. It was formed in 1929 after an antagonistic national convention of the '' Congreso Obrero de Filipinas'' (COF, "Philippine Labor Congress") where election results were manipulated caused Crisanto Evangelista and his faction to split from the COF. In 1930, the KAP changed its name to ''Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas'' after it initiated the formation of a "mass political party" and questions arose regarding its name. Aside from Evangelista, other leaders of the KAP included Guillermo Capadocia, Manuel R. Joven, Mariano P. Balgos, and Pedro G. Castro.
