Gudivada is a city in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Gudivada mandal in Gudivada revenue division. It is one of the cities in the state to be a part of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region. It is the twenty-seventh most populous city in Andhra Pradesh and the three-hundredth most populous city in India with a population of 118,167 according to the 2011 Census of India. History The name Gudivada was derived from ''Gudi'' meaning Temple and ''Vada'' means Settlement or town in Telugu language. The presence of Habitation at this city may be dated back to 3rd Century BCE or 2nd Century BCE since the time of Sathavahanas as per some inscriptions. Archaeological excavations conducted at Gudivada yielded an ancient Buddhist stupa mound and Jain relics. Gudivada mandal is one of the 25 mandals in Krishna district of the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is under the administration of Gudivada revenue division and the headquarters are located at Gudivada town. The mandal is bounded by Pedaparupudi, Nandivada, Mandavalli, Mudinepalle, Gudlavalleru, Pamarru mandals of Krishna district. Demographics census, the mandal had a population of 161,453. Mandal in Andhra Pradesh, India is a sub-District. History The Mandal system came into existence as an administrative reform, as part of reducing the size of erstwhile taluks and making them more effective and manageable. The decentralisation of taluks into mandals was done with a two-pronged strategy of modernising the revenue administration, record-keeping as well as further decentralising the panchayati raj system. It was hoped that the division of erstwhile large Talukas into mandals could make them more manageable, and also that the administration of the state government, especially the revenue administration, will become monitored closely. Amaravati () is the capital of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the banks of the river Krishna in Guntur district. Coastal Andhra (South costal Andhra) also known as Kostha Andhra is a region in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Vijayawada is the largest city in this region. It was part of Madras State before 1953 and Andhra State from 1953 to 1956.
