Guayama FC
Guayama Futbol Club is a football team based in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Founded in 1959, the club plays in the Liga Puerto Rico. History The club was founded in 1959 as an amateur team, before later becoming a professional club. The club joined the premier division of Puerto Rican football, the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Puerto Rico, in 2012. The club was selected to participate internationally in the 1992 CONCACAF Champions' Cup against Rockmaster FC of the U.S. Virgin Islands, but withdrew before the tournament began. Guayama (, ), officially the Autonomous Municipality of Guayama ( es, Municipio Autónomo de Guayama) is a city and municipality on the Caribbean coast of Puerto Rico. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, the city had a population of 36,614. It is the center of the Guayama metropolitan area with a population of 68,442 in 2020. The Liga Puerto Rico (LPR) is an amateur football competition organized by the Puerto Rican Football Federation. It is the top division football league on the island. The champion qualifies to participate in the Caribbean Club Shield each season. History Following the absence of a football league in Puerto Rico for the 2017-18 season, the new Liga Puerto Rico was announced via Facebook by the Puerto Rico Football Federation in August 2018. Prior to the announcement, the federation organized a Preparatory Tournament that ran from March until June 2018. Ten teams participated in the tournament which was eventually won by Bayamón FC. The league's official launch event attended by FIFA and CONCACAF delegates was held on August 23, 2018 with the league set to begin play the following month. The Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Puerto Rico (LNF) was the first division association football league of Puerto Rico sharing D-1 status with Puerto Rico Soccer League. The LNF was founded on July 25, 2009 and the 2015 season featured six teams. History The league was founded on July 25, 2009 as the second division of the Puerto Rico Soccer League (PRSL), which was at that time the first division league of Puerto Rico. The Liga Nacional de Fútbol originally had 16 teams that were put into two groups of 8 (East Division and West Division) for the regular season. The inaugural year began with Yabucoa Borikén taking on Maunabo Leones, as well as San Juan United taking on Club Deportivo Gallitos. Both games were held in Yabucoa. 1992 CONCACAF Champions' Cup
The 1992 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, also known as the American Airlines Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 28th edition of the annual international club football competition held in the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. It determined that year's club champion of football in the CONCACAF region and was played from 1 February 1992 till 5 January 1993. The teams were split in 2 zones (North/Central and Caribbean), each one qualifying two teams to the final tournament. All qualifying matches were played under the home/away match system, while the final was played in California, USA. Guayama FC Stadium
Guayama FC Stadium was a proposed soccer-specific stadium which is to be located in the Guayama Sports Complex of Guayama, Puerto Rico near a plot of land adjacent to the Athletic Court Doctor Roberto Monroig, which is currently used exclusively for the practice of football. The construction for the new stadium was scheduled to begin to be built in time for the 2014 season. As for the name of the stadium, the mayor confirmed that it has already been proposed by several groups that it should bear the name of Doctor Roberto Monroig.
