Guarayos Province
Guarayos is a province in the northwestern parts of the Bolivian Santa Cruz Department. Location Guarayos is one of fifteen provinces in the Santa Cruz Department. It borders Beni Department in the north and northwest, Ichilo Province and Obispo Santistevan Province in the southwest, and Ñuflo de Chávez Province in the south and east. The Province is situated between 13° 58' and 16° 30' south, and 62° 29' and 64° 44' west, its extension from east to west is up to 320 km, from north to west circa 380 km. Population Part of the province is inhabited by an indigenous people, called Guarayos. The current indigenous inhabitants seem to have settled here beginning with the 16th century. The province's population went up from 17,697 (census 1992) to 31,577 (census 2001) and 38,448 (estimation 2005). Ñuflo De Chávez Province
Ñuflo de Chávez is one of the fifteen provinces of the Bolivian Santa Cruz Department and is situated in the northern central parts of the department. The name of the province honors the conquistador Ñuflo de Chaves (1518–1556) who founded the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Its capital is Concepción. The province was created by law of September 16, 1915, during the presidency of Ismael Montes. Municipalities in Bolivia are administrative divisions of the entire national territory governed by local elections. Municipalities are the third level of administrative divisions, below departments and provinces. Some of the provinces consist of only one municipality. In these cases the municipalities are identical to the provinces they belong to. History of governance Municipalities in Bolivia are each led by a mayor, an executive office. Mayors were appointed by the national government from 1878 to 1942 and from 1949 to 1987. Local elections were held under the 1942 municipal code, which was in force until 1991. Guarayos
The Guarayos are an indigenous group living in their ancestral land in eastern Bolivia. They are located north of the department of Santa Cruz. The current population of the Guarayo group in Bolivia is 12,000. They primarily speak Guarayu, and 70% of the population is Roman Catholic with the remaining 30% practicing ethnic religions. Guarayu comes from the language of Guaranà as it belongs in the Tupà Family. They are known to be predominantly agricultural as much of their culture and lifestyle relies on their land. Obispo Santistevan Province
Obispo Santistevan (or: ''Santiesteban'') is one of the fifteen provinces of the Bolivian Santa Cruz department and is situated in the department's western parts. The province was founded on 2 December 1941, and its name honors Obispo Santistevan (1843–1931), famous supporter of the building of Santa Cruz Cathedral. Location ''Obispo Santistevan'' Province is located between 16° 02' and 17° 24' South and between 63° 02' and 64° 15' West. It extends over a length of 280 km from Northwest to Southeast, and up to 45 km from West to East. The province's border to the neighbouring provinces in the East and Northeast is formed by RÃo Grande.
