Guanyem Catalunya ( en, Let's Win Catalonia) is a political party in Catalonia founded by the former mayor of Badalona, Dolors Sabater. History The party was founded on 1 December 2020, with the aim of "exporting municipalism to Parliament" and "carry on the good work done in the municipalities of Badalona, Girona, Ripollet and Cerdanyola del Vallès." Previously, a similar space called ''Municipalistas per la República des de Baix'' ( en, Municipalists for the Republic from Below) was founded, led by Dolors Sabater herself, Carles Escolà (mayor of Cerdanyola) and José María Osuna (mayor of Ripollet). Dolors Sabater
Maria Dolors Sabater i Puig (born 1960) is a Catalan teacher, social activist and politician from Spain. She was mayor of Badalona from 2015 to 2018, and elected to the Parliament of Catalonia in 2021. Career Sabater is a teacher with a focus on special needs education. Her brother Frederic has a lifelong intellectual disability, and she has been vocal for disability rights. In June 2015, Sabater became mayor of her hometown of Badalona, replacing People's Party incumbent Xavier García Albiol. Her localist party Guanyem Badalona en Comú was supported by larger left-wing parties. Despite her republican and separatist views, Sabater took the standard oath of office swearing loyalty to the Spanish Constitution, adding "until the working Catalan people, exercising their democratic will, decide to construct the freer, more sovereign and more socially just Catalan Republic". 2021 Catalan Regional Election
The 2021 Catalan regional election was held on Sunday, 14 February 2021, to elect the 13th/14th Parliament of the autonomous community of Catalonia. All 135 seats in the Parliament were up for election. After the 2017 election, pro-Catalan independence parties secured a parliamentary majority, electing Quim Torra as new Catalan president after attempts to have Carles Puigdemont and Jordi Turull elected to the office were foiled by Spanish courts. However, in December 2019 Torra was disqualified by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) from holding any elected office and/or from exercising government powers for disobeying the Central Electoral Commission (JEC)'s rulings in the April 2019 Spanish general election campaign.
