Guanay
Guanay is a small town on the Tipuani River in the Yungas region of Bolivia. It is the seat of the Guanay Municipality, the second municipality of the Larecaja Province. Guanay and the nearby town of Tipuani are at the end of El Camino del Oro (the Gold Digger's Trail) from Sorata. There is still gold mining activity in the Guanay–Tipuani area. The Tipuani River is a tributary to the Beni River. It is possible to travel by boat from Guanay to Rurrenabaque Rurrenabaque is a small town in the north of Bolivia on the Beni River. It is the capital of Rurrenabaque Municipality. Guanay Municipality
Guanay Municipality (Aymara: ''Wanay'') is the second municipal section of the Larecaja Province in the La Paz Department, Bolivia. Its seat is Guanay. Geography The Cordillera Real traverses the Guanay Municipality. Some of the highest peaks of the range, Chachakumani Chachacomani (possibly from Quechua ''chachakuma'' a medical plant) is a mountain in the Cordillera Real of the Andes Mountains, east of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. Larecaja Province
Larecaja is a province in the Bolivian La Paz Department. It was founded by Antonio José de Sucre on October 18, 1826. Its capital is Sorata. Geography The Cordillera Real traverses the province. Some of the highest peaks of the province are Illampu and Janq'u Uma. Yungas
The Yungas (Aymara ''yunka'' warm or temperate Andes or earth, Quechua ''yunka'' warm area on the slopes of the Andes) is a bioregion of a narrow band of forest along the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains from Peru and Bolivia, and extends into Northwest Argentina at the slope of the Andes pre-cordillera. It is a transitional zone between the Andean highlands and the eastern forests. Like the surrounding areas, the Yungas belong to the Neotropical realm; the climate is rainy, humid, and warm. Setting The Yungas forests are extremely diverse, ranging from moist lowland forest to evergreen montane forest and cloud forests. Sorata
Sorata (Aymara language, Aymara: ''Surat'a'') is a small town in the La Paz Department, Bolivia, La Paz Department in the Bolivian Andes, northwest of the city of La Paz and east of Lake Titicaca. It is the seat of the Larecaja Province and the Sorata Municipality. At the time of census 2001 it had a population of 2,217. It is a somewhat popular weekend getaway and a relaxing base camp for a growing number of hikers. It includes several small hotels, including a converted Italian mansion. History In Spanish Empire, colonial days, Sorata provided a link to the Alto Beni goldfields and rubber plantations, and a gateway to the Amazon Basin. In August 1781 it was the site of an unorthodox siege by the nephew of Tupac Amaru, Andres, and his 16,000 soldiers. Gold Mining
Gold mining is the extraction of gold resources by mining. Historically, mining gold from alluvial deposits used manual separation processes, such as gold panning. However, with the expansion of gold mining to ores that are not on the surface, has led to more complex extraction processes such as pit mining and gold cyanidation. Beni River
The Beni River ( es, Río Beni) is a river in the north of Bolivia. It rises north of La Paz and flows northeast. The Madre de Dios River is where its mouth is at. In the upper portion of its course it flows through highland forest and rainforest, where the rapids of Cachuela Esperanza interrupt the upstream navigability of the river. The middle river runs through dense rainforest where it is joined by the Madidi River and the Tuichi River which flow through Madidi National Park. The Tuichi River joins the Beni River upstream from the town Rurrenabaque. Rurrenabaque
Rurrenabaque is a small town in the north of Bolivia on the Beni River. It is the capital of Rurrenabaque Municipality. In recent years it has become popular with international tourism as it is an easy gateway for visits to Madidi National Park (within the Bolivian rainforest), as well as the surrounding pampas.
