Guadalope River Gorge
The Guadalope (Guadalop in Catalan and Aragonese) is a river in Aragon, Spain. It is a tributary of the Ebro (Ebre in Catalan). Course This long river rises in the Sierra de Gúdar, near Villarroya de los Pinares and Miravete de la Sierra in the Maestrazgo, Aragon. It receives water from rivulets originating in the Sierra de la Cañada and Sierra Carrascosa. Flowing northeastwards its waters fill the Santolea reservoir, then the dam of Calanda, before it enters the Ebro at Caspe. In addition to the towns mentioned, it also flows through Alcañiz and Civan. Alcañiz
Alcañiz () is a town and municipality of Teruel province in the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. The town is located on the banks of the river Guadalope. Alcañiz is the unofficial capital of the Lower Aragon historical region. It lies some 113 km from Teruel, the provincial capital, and 92 km from Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon. Alcañiz is the capital of the Bajo Aragón comarca and the second city in the province after Teruel. History The current settlement of Alcañiz dates to the Islamic era in Spain. It was captured by the Christian troops of Alfonso I of Aragon in 1119, but was later taken back by the Moors. It was conquered again by count Ramon Berenguer IV of Barcelona in 1157, and again lost, until it was finally recaptured by his son Alfonso II of Aragon. Ebro Basin
The Ebro Basin was a foreland basin that formed to the south of the Pyrenees during the Paleogene. It was also limited to the southeast by the Catalan Coastal Ranges. It began as a fully marine basin with connections to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, before becoming an endorheic basin during the Late Eocene. Bergantes
The Bergantes is a short river in the Valencian and Aragon Communities which rises in the comarca of el Ports ( Castellón), SSE of Morella. It is the only river in Valencia which forms part of the Ebro basin. Geography Although its course is not long (approximately ) and it has a relatively small basin, it has a strong flow during the winter, due to heavy rainfall in the headwater area, situated in the shadow of the mountainous area to the north. The river Cantavieja and the river Calders, which rise in Teruel province, join the Bergantes at the pueblo of Forcall. The Bergantes joins the Guadalope just before the reservoir at Calanda.
