Gryazovets
Gryazovets (russian: Гря́зовец) is a town and the administrative center of Gryazovetsky District in Vologda Oblast, Russia, located on the Rzhavka River, south of Vologda, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: History The first mention of Gryazovets dates back to 1538, when it was described as a settlement dependent on the Korniliyevo-Komelsky Monastery. The settlement was chartered on January 25, 1780, when it became the seat of Gryazovetsky Uyezd of Vologda Viceroyalty. The viceroyalty was abolished in 1796 and its part which included Gryazovetsky Uyezd became Vologda Governorate. Throughout the 19th century, the population of Gryazovets varied between two and three thousand, most of whom were employed in agriculture. The most common industry was dyeing. Gryazovets–Vyborg Gas Pipeline
Gryazovets–Vyborg gas pipeline (russian: Грязовец–Выборг) is a branch pipeline of the Northern Lights pipeline from Gryazovets in central part of Russian Federation through Vologda and Leningrad oblasts to Saint Petersburg, Vyborg, and Finland. The third line of this pipeline was built to feed the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. Status Gryazovets–Vyborg gas pipeline is a part of the Russian unified gas transportation system. The third line connects the grid in Gryazovets with the Portovaya coastal compressor station near Vyborg. It runs in parallel with other two lines of the Northern Lights pipeline. The pipeline is designed, constructed, and operated solely by Gazprom. It feeds the Nord Stream gas pipeline as also supplies gas to the Northwestern region of Russia (Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast), as well as a liquefied natural gas terminal in Portovaya that started in September 2022 for shipping to Kaliningrad. Gryazovetsky Uyezd () was one of the subdivisions of the Vologda Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the southwestern part of the governorate. Northern Lights (russian: Сияние северa, ''Siyaniye Severa '') is a natural gas pipeline system in Russia and Belarus. It is one of the main pipelines supplying north-western Russia and is an important transit route for Russian gas to Europe. History The Northern Lights pipeline system was built in the Soviet Union from the 1960s to 1980s. Construction of the Vuktyl–Ukhta–Gryazovets–Torzhok section started in 1967 and was completed in 1969. By 1974, the pipeline had been extended to Minsk. Northern Krai (russian: Северный край, ''Severny Krai'') was a ''krai'' (a first-level administrative and municipal unit) of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic from 1929 to 1936. The Russian route M8 "Kholmogory" (russian: М-8 «Холмогоры») or Yaroslavl highway (russian: Ярославское шоссе), is a major trunk road that links Moscow to the Russian North in general and the sea harbour of Arkhangelsk in particular.
