Grrr Records
Grrr Records is a French avant-garde jazz record label founded by Jean-Jacques Birgé in 1975. Grrr belongs to Les Allumés du Jazz, 90 French independent jazz and improvised music labels. The first LP by Grrr was ''Défense de'' by Birgé-Gorgé-Shiroc, which became a cult-album after having been quoted in the Nurse with Wound list. Grrr has been issuing CDs since 1987 with ''L'hallali'' by Un Drame Musical Instantané, led by multi-instrumentalist Jean-Jacques Birgé, trumpeter Bernard Vitet and guitarist Francis Gorgé. The label also produced the albums of multi-instrumentalist composer Hélène Sage, accordionist Michèle Buirette and female trio Pied de Poule (M. Buirette, bassist, Geneviève Cabannes, and singer Dominique Fonfrède). Allumés Du Jazz
Les Allumés du Jazz is an association formed in 1996, regrouping independent labels of all allegiances and widely varying trends, from traditional jazz to the most innovative. Les Allumés du Jazz publishes a newspaper every three to four months. On their website, one can find a catalogue of almost 2,000 available records. More than 3,000 jazz and improvising musicians can be searched. Jean-Jacques Birgé
Jean-Jacques Birgé (born 5 November 1952) is an independent French musician and filmmaker, at once music composer (co-founder of Un Drame Musical Instantané with which he records about 30 albums, as well as for movies, theater, dance, radio), film director (''La nuit du phoque, Sarajevo a Street Under Siege, The Sniper''), multimedia author (''Carton, Machiavel, Alphabet''), sound designer (exhibitions, CD-Roms, websites, Nabaztag, etc.), founder of record label GRRR. Specialist of the relations between sound and pictures, he has been one of the early synthesizer players and home studio creators in France in 1973, and with Un d.m.i. the initiator of the return of silent movies with live orchestra in 1976. Un Drame Musical Instantané, since its creation in 1976, featuring Jean-Jacques Birgé, Bernard Vitet and Francis Gorgé, has decided to promote collective musical creation, co-signing their albums, which they consider as artworks in themselves, or their live shows which they try to renew every time they play. Bernard Vitet
Bernard Vitet (26 May 1934 – 3 July 2013) was a French trumpeter, multi-instrumentist and composer, co-founder of the first free jazz band in France (1964) together with François Tusques, Michel Portal Unit (1972) and Un Drame Musical Instantané with Jean-Jacques Birgé and Francis Gorgé in 1976. Born in Paris, France, Vitet was involved in the early fusion of jazz and contemporary music with Bernard Parmegiani and Jean-Louis Chautemps. In the 1960s, he accompanied singers such as Serge Gainsbourg, Barbara, Yves Montand, Claude François, Brigitte Bardot, Marianne Faithfull, Colette Magny, and Brigitte Fontaine. He played with jazz musicians such as Lester Young, Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton, Don Cherry, Chet Baker, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Steve Lacy, Gato Barbieri, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Martial Solal. Antoine Schmitt (born 1961 in Strasbourg, France) is a French contemporary artist, programming engineer and designer. Biography Antoine Schmitt was a self-made programmer at the age of 16. After earning his engineer diploma from the Telecom Paris in 1984, he worked as programming engineer specialised in artificial intelligence and human-machine interactions, in Paris, especially for the company Act Informatique for five years (1985–1991), and in Silicon Valley as an R&D engineer for the NeXT company with Steve Jobs for three years (1991–1994). Michel Houellebecq
Michel Houellebecq (; born Michel Thomas, 26 February 1956 or 1958) is a French author, known for his novels, poems and essays, as well as an occasional actor, filmmaker and singer. His first book was a biographical essay on the horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. Houellebecq published his first novel, '' Whatever'', in 1994.
