''Grow Your Own'' is a 2007 British comedy film directed by Richard Laxton, and written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Carl Hunter. It stars Benedict Wong, John Henshaw, Eddie Marsan, Pearce Quigley, Omid Djalili, Alan Williams, Philip Jackson, and Olivia Colman. The film centres on a group of gardeners at a Merseyside allotment, who react angrily when a group of refugees are given plots at the site, but after they get to know them better, soon change their minds. The film was previously known under the title ''The Allotment''. Production The original idea for the film came from Carl Hunter's involvement with the Merseyside community group "Art in Action". With the project he had worked with a number of refugees who had taken up residence in Liverpool. Richard Laxton (born 5 July 1967 in London) is a British film director Career Richard Laxton started his career with the short film '' I Bet It Will Rain'' in 1992. Initially he mainly worked for TV production, and was nominated for British Academy Film Awards for several of his TV episodes. In 2006 he made his first feature film ''Life and Lyrics''. His next feature films were '' Grow Your Own'' in 2007, ''An Englishman in New York'' in 2009 and ''Effie Gray'' in 2012. His last production for TV were the twelve episodes of the series ''Him & Her'' in 2011. In 2013 he realised a biographical film entitled ''Effie Gray''. Warp Films
Warp Films is an independent film and television production company based in Sheffield & London, UK. History 2001 – 2012 Warp Films was established by Warp Records founding partners Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett. It was initially created with financial support from NESTA and had a remit to produce a number of short films.
