Grovedale College
Grovedale College (formerly known as Grovedale Secondary College) is an Australian public high school located in Grovedale, Victoria, a suburb in the city of Geelong. It was established in 1979 as the Grovedale Technical High School. Under the guidance of the founding principal R "Bob" Arnup the new school prospered and developed a unique status at the time as a model of progressive education. Grovedale is a southern suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. At the , Grovedale had a population of 14,869. History Toponymy The locality was originally named ''Germantown'' because several families of German Lutheran origin had settled there in 1849, with the German community expanding in the following decades. German Cottage, a house from this period located on the Surf Coast Highway (Torquay Road), is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. Following the outbreak of the First World War, and particularly after the sinking of the ''RMS Lusitania'' by a German submarine in May 1915, there was agitation to change the name of the area. A well-attended meeting at Germantown on 31 May 1915 agreed to recommend to the South Barwon Shire Council that the name should be changed to Marlborough or Cornwall. Darcy Parish (born 25 July 1997) is a professional Australian rules footballer with the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Parish was born in Winchelsea, Victoria. He participated in the Auskick program at the local Winchelsea club. He played under-18 football with the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup. Parish was recruited by the Essendon Football Club with the fifth overall selection in the 2015 national draft. Rhys Mathieson
Rhys Mathieson (born 10 January 1997) is a professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). At 1.87 metres (6 ft 2 in) tall and weighing 84 kilograms (185 lb), he plays as a midfielder and is known for his ability to win contested ball. On the 20 October 2023 he was delisted by the Brisbane Lions. AFL career He was recruited by the Brisbane Lions with the 39th selection in the 2015 national draft. Gryan Miers (born 30 March 1999) is an Australian rules footballer playing for in the Australian Football League (AFL). A small forward, he played in the TAC Cup before he was recruited by Geelong with pick 57 in the 2017 national draft. Miers debuted in the opening round of the 2019 season and was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award in round 8. Junior career Miers played junior football for St Mary's and Grovedale before representing the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup.
