''Grounds for Divorce'' is a 1925 American silent film, silent romantic comedy film directed by Paul Bern and written by Guy Bolton, Violet Clark, and Ernest Vajda. The film stars Florence Vidor, Matt Moore (actor), Matt Moore, Harry Myers, Louise Fazenda, George Beranger and Gustav von Seyffertitz. The film was released on July 27, 1925, by Paramount Pictures. Plot Maurice Sorbier, one of the best known divorce lawyers in Paris, himself ends up divorcing his wife Alice. This remarries with the count Zappata, to the great disappointment of one of her suitor, Guido, aviator and well-known heartthrob. Alice soon realizes she doesn't love the count, but he refuses to give her a divorce. At Guido's suggestion, the lady turns to her ex-husband to ask him for advice but, above all, to have an excuse to see him again. Paul Bern
Paul Bern (born Paul Levy; December 3, 1889September 5, 1932) was a German-born American film director, screenwriter, and producer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he became the assistant to Irving Thalberg. He helped launch the career of Jean Harlow, whom he married in July 1932; two months later, he was found dead of a gunshot wound, leaving what appeared to be a suicide note. Various alternative theories of his death have been proposed. MGM writer and film producer Samuel Marx believed that he was killed by his Common-law marriage in the United States, ex-common-law wife Dorothy Millette, who jumped to her death from a ferry days afterward. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. A reel is an object around which a length of another material (usually long and flexible) is wound for storage (usually hose are wound around a reel). Generally a reel has a cylindrical core (known as a '' spool'') with flanges around the ends (known as the ''rims'') to retain the material wound around the core. In most cases the core is hollow in order to pass an axle and allow the reel to rotate like a wheel, and crank or handles may exist for manually turning the reel, while others are operated by (typically electric) motors. Construction The size of the core is dependent on several factors. A smaller core will obviously allow more material to be stored in a given space. Olive Borden
Olive Mary Borden (July 14, 1906 – October 1, 1947) was an American film and stage actress who began her career during the silent film era. She was nicknamed "the Joy Girl", after playing the lead in the 1927 film of that same title. Borden was known for her jet-black hair and stunning overall beauty. At the peak of her career in the mid-1920s, Borden was earning $1,500 a week. In 1927, she walked out on her contract with Fox after refusing to take a pay cut. By 1929, her career began to wane due to her rumored reputation for being temperamental and her difficulty transitioning to sound films. She made her last film, '' Chloe, Love Is Calling You'', in 1934 and moved on to stage work for a time. By the late 1930s, she had declared bankruptcy and stopped acting. Early life On July 19, 1900, Cooper was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Career Cooper is known for her performances in ''Men, Women, and Money'' (1919), ''Grounds for Divorce'' (1925), and ''The Ten Commandments'' (1956). Bobbi Trout asked starlet Edna Mae Cooper if she wanted to go with her to attempt another endurance run. They first attempted the flight on January 1, 1931 but due to technical problems they had to abort the flight. At their next attempt, they were successful in flying straight for 122 hours and 50 minutes, only to end the run on January 9, 1931 due to the spitting off fuel.
