Harry Marshall Groom
Harry Marshall Groom BCL (July 9, 1894 – May 19, 1964) was a Canadian lawyer and politician in the Province of New Brunswick. He was born in Bocabec, New Brunswick, the son of John Marshall Groom and Lucy Jane McKay. He graduated in 1922 from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Civil Law degree. In 1924, he married Mabel Albina McMillan (1894–1982) of Head of Millstream in New Brunswick. Groom was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the 1930 New Brunswick general election as a Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the multi-member riding of Charlotte County. Chris Groom (born 28 August 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club, Fremantle Football Club and North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Wedsel Gary "Buddy" Groom Jr. (born July 10, 1965) is a former Major League Baseball left-handed middle relief pitcher. He attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 1987 amateur draft. He played in the minor leagues, and he eventually signed with the Detroit Tigers in 1990. He moved up through the minors and broke into the majors as a spot starter for the Tigers in 1992. He lost all of his 5 decisions, and he did not win a decision until 1995, his first year as a bonafide reliever. In 1995, he was traded to the Florida Marlins for Mike Myers, where he finished the year. The next year, he signed with the Oakland Athletics, where he played until 1999. Robert Groom (September 12, 1884 – February 19, 1948), was a professional baseball player who played as a pitcher in two midwest minor leagues and the Pacific Coast League from 1904 to 1908, and then in the Major Leagues from 1909 to 1918. He pitched for the Washington Senators (1909–1913), St. Louis Terriers (Federal League, 1914–1915), St. Louis Browns (1916–1917), and Cleveland Indians (1918). Arthur Hesketh Groom (1846–1918) was the founder of the Kobe Golf Club, Japan's first golf club. Groom came to Japan in 1868 and became a long-term resident of Kobe. Arthur Groom (11 December 1904 – 14 November 1953) was an Australian writer, conservationist, journalist and photographer, the son of Arthur Champion Groom. Early career Arthur Groom was raised on the cattle station Rosabelle Downs in Queensland, Australia and worked as a jackaroo and journalist. In 1926, he went to Brisbane to write for The Sunday Mail. In 1930 he became the first honorary secretary of the National Parks Association of Queensland and was active in the promotion of national parks and environmental protection until his death. With Romeo Lahey, he established Binna Burra Lodge on the edge of the Lamington National Park, in southeast Queensland, in 1933. Though found medically unfit for service in World War II, he trained soldiers from the Canungra Army Base in jungle warfare. Arthur Champion Groom (26 November 1852 – 22 March 1922) was an Australian politician and land agent. Early life Groom was born at 'Harefield' in St Marys, Tasmania, the fifth son of Francis Groom and Matilda Emma, née Minnett. He attended Horton College at Ross before arriving in Victoria in 1872.
