Grizzly Peak, California
Grizzly Flats (formerly Grizzly Flat and Chickenmasee) is a census-designated place in El Dorado County, California. It is located southeast of Camino, at an elevation of 3868 feet (1179 m). Grizzly Flats is the town nearest to Baltic Peak, a small peak to the northwest. The population at the 2010 census was 1,066. History Grizzly Flats originated as a gold mining camp in the 1850s. The name was given by prospectors who were surprised by a grizzly bear there in 1850. In 1852 it was described as being on a flat piece of land measuring approximately one mile by three quarters of a mile and having two combination bars, stores, and boarding houses, with more under construction. It was located centrally in a jurisdiction called Mountain Township. A post office opened in 1854, a stagecoach route to Diamond Springs in 1855, and a Wells Fargo office in 1857. Grizzly Peak is a high and prominent mountain summit of the Collegiate Peaks in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The thirteener is located south-southwest ( bearing 202°) of Independence Pass, Colorado, United States, on the Continental Divide separating San Isabel National Forest and Chaffee County from White River National Forest and Pitkin County. Elevation Grizzly Peak is the highest summit in the United States less than , making it the highest thirteener in the country. At one time, the peak's elevation was measured to be over 14,000 feet and was believed to be a fourteener, but more recent and accurate surveys have dropped it below that threshold. List Of Mountains And Mountain Ranges Of Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park, located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, though the park also extends into Montana and Idaho and its Mountains and Mountain Ranges are part of the Rocky Mountains. There are at least 70 named mountain peaks over in Yellowstone in four mountain ranges. Two of the ranges—The Washburn Range and the Red Mountains—are minor and completely enclosed within park boundaries. The other two ranges are major, multi-state ranges that extend far beyond the boundaries of the park. The Gallatin Range begins approximately north of Yellowstone near Bozeman, Montana, and dominates the northwest corner of the park.
