Griqua Park
Griqua Park (currently known as Windhoek Draught Park for sponsorship reasons) is an 11,000-capacity multi-purpose stadium in Kimberley, South Africa. It is mainly used for rugby union matches and it is the home stadium of provincial Currie Cup side . The Super Rugby side also played some matches at this ground. Griquas relocated to the stadium from their former De Beers Stadium home in 1991, when the stadium was known as Hoffe Park. It was named after Chas Hoffe, the head manager of Spoornet who owned the ground. Despite initially having only two stands, much ground development was done during the mid-1990s under the leadership of then-president Andre Markgraaff, increasing the stadium's capacity to 11,000, as well as adding several suites. Between 1998 and 2008, the stadium had a sponsorship deal with ABSA Bank, during which time the stadium was known as Absa Park. Kimberley, Northern Cape
Kimberley is the capital and largest city of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is located approximately 110 km east of the confluence of the Vaal and Orange Rivers. The city has considerable historical significance due to its diamond mining past and the siege during the Second Anglo-Boer war. British businessmen Cecil Rhodes and Barney Barnato made their fortunes in Kimberley, and Rhodes established the De Beers diamond company in the early days of the mining town. Andre Markgraaff
Andries Thomas "Andre" Markgraaff (born 23 December 1956) is a retired South African rugby union lock. He matriculated at Diamantveld High School and was a controversial national coach, who resigned after he was taped using the racial K-word. Playing career Markgraaff was selected for the South African team in 1986 against the Cavaliers but as an unused substitute. Markgraaff also represented Western Transvaal, Western Province, Griqualand West and the then South West Africa in 20 games. He captained the South African Barbarians on a tour to Europe and the Junior Springboks. Coaching In 1988, he became coach of Griqualand West. He became president of Griquas in 1991. In 1996, Markgraaff was appointed as the Springbok rugby coach. Douglas is an agricultural and stock farming town situated near the confluence of the Orange River, Orange and Vaal Rivers in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. De Beers Stadium
The De Beers Stadium in Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa was the home ground of the Griqualand West (now called Northern Cape) cricket team from 1927 to 1973. It staged a total of 88 first-class matches, in all of which Griqualand West was the home team. Their opponents were usually rival teams in the Currie Cup and the venue also hosted international touring teams including Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the Australians and the New Zealanders. Super Rugby is a men's professional rugby union club competition involving teams from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
