Grim's Ditch
Grim's Ditch, Grim's Dyke (also Grimsdyke or Grimes Dike in derivative names) or Grim's Bank is a name shared by a number of prehistoric bank and ditch linear earthworks across England. They are of different dates and may have had different functions. Purpose The purpose of these earthworks remains a mystery, but as they are too small for military use they may have served to demarcate territory. Some of the Grims Ditches may have had multiple functions. Etymology The name "Grim's Ditch" is Old English in origin. The Anglo-Saxon word ''dīc'' was pronounced "deek" in northern England and "deetch" in the south. The method of building this type of earthwork involved digging a trench and forming the upcast soil into a bank alongside it. This practice has resulted in the name ''dīc'' being given to either the trench or the bank, and this evolved into two words, ''ditch'' and '' dyke'' in modern British English. The origin of the name ''Grim'' is shrouded in mystery, but there are se ...

Grim Trigger
In game theory, grim trigger (also called the grim strategy or just grim) is a trigger strategy for a repeated game. Initially, a player using grim trigger will cooperate, but as soon as the opponent defects (thus satisfying the trigger condition), the player using grim trigger will defect for the remainder of the iterated game. Since a single defect by the opponent triggers defection forever, grim trigger is the most strictly unforgiving of strategies in an iterated game. In Robert Axelrod's book ''The Evolution of Cooperation'', grim trigger is called "Friedman", for a 1971 paper by James Friedman, which uses the concept. The infinitely repeated prisoners' dilemma The infinitely repeated prisoners’ dilemma is a well-known example for the grim trigger strategy. The normal game for two prisoners is as follows: In the prisoners' dilemma, each player has two choices in each stage: # Cooperate # Defect for an immediate gain If a player defects, he will be punished for the rema ...

GRIM Test
The granularity-related inconsistency of means (GRIM) test is a simple statistical test used to identify inconsistencies in the analysis of data sets. The test relies on the fact that, given a dataset containing ''N'' integer values, the arithmetic mean (commonly called simply the average) is restricted to a few possible values: it must always be expressible as a fraction with an integer numerator and a denominator ''N''. If the reported mean does not fit this description, there must be an error somewhere; the preferred term for such errors is "inconsistencies", to emphasise that their origin is, on first discovery, typically unknown. GRIM inconsistencies can result from inadvertent data-entry or typographical errors or from scientific fraud. The GRIM test is most useful in fields such as psychology where researchers typically use small groups and measurements are often integers. The GRIM test was proposed by Nick Brown and James Heathers in 2016, following increased awareness of ...

''Grim'' is the second studio album by Cincinnati, Ohio-based indie rock band Ass Ponys. It was originally released in 1992 on OKra Records, and was re-released by Safe House Records in 1993. Critical reception ''Grim'' received mixed reviews from critics. Greg Adams of AllMusic gave the album 3 out of 5 stars, writing that "''Grim'', when it hits its mark, is strong stuff." He added that on the album, " ss Ponys singer/songwriter ChuckCleaver takes twisted backwoods tales and freak-show tragedies and infuses them with just enough wistful reflection to turn ''Deliverance''-style black humor into sometimes crushingly affecting narratives." In a 3-star (out of 4) review, Greg Kot wrote that the album's "...harmony vocals are plaintive and, on tunes such as "It's Not Happening," just about the prettiest thing you'll hear on a pop record this year." In 2006, ''PopMatters John Kenyon criticized the album for what he said was its "muddy production that made finding the hooks in some o ...

Military History Of The North-West Frontier
The North-West Frontier (present-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) was a region of the British Indian Empire. It remains the western frontier of present-day Pakistan, extending from the Pamir Knot in the north to the Koh-i-Malik Siah in the west, and separating the modern Pakistani frontier regions of North-West Frontier Province (renamed as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Balochistan from neighbouring Afghanistan in the west. The borderline between is officially known as the Durand Line and divides Pashtun inhabitants of these provinces from Pashtuns in eastern Afghanistan. The two main gateways on the North West Frontier are the Khyber and Bolan Passes. Since ancient times, the Indian subcontinent has been repeatedly invaded through these northwestern routes. With the expansion of the Russian Empire into Central Asia in the twentieth century, stability of the Frontier and control of Afghanistan became cornerstones of defensive strategy for British India.
