Gretelill Fries
Gretelill Fries (born Margrethe Fries, August 18, 1923 – June 7, 1977) was a Norwegian stage and film actress. Family Fries was born in Bergen, the daughter of the actor and theater manager Hjalmar Fries. She was the niece of the actor Harald Schwenzen and screenwriter Per Schwenzen. She was married to the actor Øistein Børke from 1943 to 1949. She later remarried and was known as Gretelill Fries Kavli. Career Fries debuted at the Rogaland Theater in 1947. She was engaged with the National Theater in Oslo from 1952 to 1954, and she also performed at the New Theater and People's Theater. Fries most often played young women, and her most noted role was as the maid Mirza in Christian Friedrich Hebbel's ''Judith'' in 1954. She appeared in Leif Sinding's film ''Gylne ungdom'' in 1956. Oslo Nye Teater is a theater located in Oslo, Norway. The theater has its main stage in its own theater house at Rosenkrantz' gate 10. It is one of Norway's most visited theatres. ''Gylne ungdom'' (Golden Youth) is a Norwegian drama film from 1956. It was directed by Leif Sinding, who also wrote the screenplay. Plot The high school student Tom Polden does not have it easy at home. His mother lives in the memories of her husband, the lawyer Ernst Polden. Her hat shop is doing poorly, and her finances are meager. Tom constantly hears about his great father, and it therefore comes as a shock to him when one day he hears that his father shot himself because he had embezzled a substantial amount of money. Leif Sinding
Leif Sinding (19 November 1895 – 13 May 1985) was a Norwegian film director and journalist. He worked for the newspapers ''Verdens Gang'', ''Aftenposten'', and ''Morgenbladet''. Among his silent films are ''Himmeluret'' from 1925, based on Gabriel Scott's comedy, and ''Fjeldeventyret'' from 1926. He directed the film ''Bra mennesker'' (1937), based on a play by Oskar Braaten, and the films ''De vergeløse'' (1939) and ''Tante Pose'' (1940), both based on novels by Gabriel Scott. In 1941 he directed the comedy '' Kjærlighet og vennskap''. During the German occupation of Norway Sinding collaborated with the Axis forces, was a member of Nasjonal Samling, and was sentenced to four years forced labour after the war. Christian Friedrich Hebbel
Christian Friedrich Hebbel (18 March 1813 – 13 December 1863) was a German poet and dramatist. Biography Hebbel was born at Wesselburen in Dithmarschen, Holstein, the son of a bricklayer. He was educated at the ''Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums'', a grammar school in Hamburg, Germany. Despite his humble origins, he showed a talent for poetry, resulting in the publication in the ''Hamburg Modezeitung'', of verses which he had sent to Amalie Schoppe (1791–1858), a popular journalist and author of nursery tales. Through her patronage, he was able to go to the University of Hamburg. A year later he went to Heidelberg University to study law, but gave it up and went on to the University of Munich, where he devoted himself to philosophy, history and literature. Folketeateret is a theatre in Oslo, Norway. The building has been used as a movie theatre and as an opera house. The theatre has 1,400 seats. History The theatre itself operated from 1952 to 1959, but the institution has a much longer history. Inspired by the Freie Deutsche Volksbühne in Berlin led to forming of interest organizations in Bergen and Oslo in 1928 and 1929. The idea to establish a good theater for the working class. The ''Folketeatret'' building in Oslo was commissioned in 1929, and the architects Christian Morgenstierne (1880–1967) and Arne Eide (1881–1957) worked on it until it opened in 1935. For financial reasons, a theatre did not open immediately, but a movie theatre was operated. The first theatre performance happened in 1952. Hans Jacob Nilsen (1897–1957) was the theatre director from 1952 to 1955, then Jens Gunderssen (1912–1969) from 1955 to 1959. In 1959 the finances were too poor to continue as an independent theatre. Rogaland Teater is a theatre in Stavanger, Norway. Background The theatre building was built in 1883 on a parcel of '' Kannik prestegård''. It was designed by architect Hartvig Sverdrup Eckhoff, and initially held close to 500 seats. The building housed ''Stavanger Faste Scene'' from 1914 to 1921, and Stavanger Teater from 1921 to 1926.
