Greta Vaillant (born Josette Vaillant In Rennes, Brittany, France; 1 January 1942 – 7 April 2000) was a French actress and author. She was sometimes credited as Greta Vayan and Gretta Vaillont. Vaillant made her film debut in 1968, as main actress of ''Balsamus, l'uomo di Satana'', the debut film of director Pupi Avati and actor Gianni Cavina. She worked again with Avati in ''House of Pleasure for Women'' and ''Tutti defunti... tranne i morti'', and appeared in a number of Italian genre films, mainly commedie sexy all'italiana. Giuseppe Avati, better known as Pupi Avati (born 3 November 1938), is an Italian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is known to horror film fans for his two giallo masterpieces, ''The House with Laughing Windows'' (1976) and '' Zeder'' (1983). Early life and career Pupi Avati was born in Bologna in 1938. After attending school and studying Political Science at the University of Florence, he started working at a frozen food company. At the same time, he developed a passion for jazz, becoming a proficient clarinetist. In the second half of the 1950s, he formed and played in the Doctor Dixie Jazz Band, of which Lucio Dalla was also a member. Although he initially intended to be a professional musician, Avati felt he lacked the necessary talent. Gianni Cavina
Gianni Cavina (9 December 1940 – 26 March 2022) was an Italian film actor. He appeared in more than 40 films from 1968 to 2022. Born in Bologna, Cavina trained as a stage actor at the Teatro Stabile di Bologna, under the direction of Franco Parenti. He made his film debut in the 1968 horror '' Balsamus, l'uomo di Satana'', directed by Pupi Avati, with whom he had a long collaboration, starring in many of his films. The commedia sexy all'italiana (, lit. "sex comedy Italian style"), also known as commedia scollacciata or commedia erotica all'italiana, is a subgenre of Italian ''commedia all'italiana'' film genre. Style ''Commedia sexy'' is characterized typically by both abundant female nudity and comedy, and by the minimal weight given to social criticism that was the basic ingredient of the main ''commedia all'italiana'' genre. Stories are often set in affluent environments such as wealthy households. It is closely connected to the sexual revolution, and it was something extremely new and innovative for that period. For the first time, films with female nudity could be watched at the cinema. Pornography and scenes of explicit sex were still forbidden in Italian cinemas, but partial nudity was somewhat tolerated.
